Evangeline (Vangie) Clarice Okolita (Nee Selch)

March 28, 1941 — March 28, 2017

1941 ~ 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother and grandmother on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Beausejour Hospital. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children Tamara Strecker (Darrin) and Dennis (Tracy), her three grandchildren Tegan (Steven), Bethany (Cody), and Christian (Veronika).  She also leaves behind her beloved sisters Lillie Rosentreter and Dorothy Sackvie, her special friend Jack Knight, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Martin, her daughter Connie, her parents William and Alvina Selch and her sister Betty Martin.

Mom was born on May 4, 1941 in Green Bay, Manitoba. She grew up on a farm with her sisters with whom she was extremely close.  Vangie married Martin on June 24, 1961.  Together Martin and Vangie raised their family in Lac du Bonnet and later, on a small farm North East of Beausejour.  Mom worked as a teacher for many years, and then worked for Great West Life, as well as the Beausejour Hospital.  She also spent many years volunteering in both communities.  Mom and dad spent many summers on the farm raising chickens, geese and ducks, while caring for and entertaining their grandchildren.  Mom loved gardening, canning, and spending time with her family around the pool.

Thank you to everyone who helped with mom’s care over the past several years.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to East Gate Lodge, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0 or the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Green Bay, Box 17, Group 430, RR 4, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.

Prayer service and viewing will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E, Beausejour, MB.  Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 with viewing one hour prior at Sobering Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be in the Green Bay Cemetery following the service.

Mom, we love you dearly, and will miss you.  Dad and Connie will be waiting for you with open, welcoming arms just as they did on earth.

Love you more.
