1938 ~ 2012

With heavy hearts, we the family, announce that our wife, mother and nana was embraced by God’s loving arms.  Surrounded by her family, Joan peacefully went to heaven at sunrise on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 at 7:27 a.m.

She is survived by her husband, Ken, her children, Doug (Lennie), Nancy (Bruce), Shelley (Neil) and Sue (Colin). Her legacy will continue with her eight grandchildren Scott and Janelle Trapp, Chad and Mark Melan, Jack and Julia Armstrong, Erin and Kate Tribula as well as her “honorary family”, Sharlene and Robert Thompson and their sons, Brett and Kirk.

Joan had welcoming arms of family members, at the “gates of Heaven” to greet her as she was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Sophie and her brother, Staush (Stan), as well as many other close relatives.

Joan was born on July 21st, 1938 in Beausejour, MB.  She married her husband, Ken, on May 9th, 1959.  Her work experiences included working at the Hudson’s Bay Co., a road construction cook and co-owned the Gateway Restaurant with her husband.  In her later years, she was also took great pride as a homecare worker.  Through her homecare career, she formed some of her dearest friendships, especially with Diane, Renate and Nurse Madeline.

Mom and dad enjoyed old time dancing, travelling and playing cribbage.  Throughout her life, she was devoted to her family, always willing to lend a hand when needed.

We would like to thank the CancerCare Team Doctors:  Krepart, Dean, Popowich, Lotocki and nurse/friend, Tracy Chornopyski, as well as Dr. Schmidt and the Palliative Care Program.  This team allowed the family to care for Joan at home as she wished to have grace, comfort and dignity.

In lieu of flowers, Joan has requested that you “pay it forward” if you wish, by donating to CancerCare Manitoba or Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

We, the family, invite all to share in a Celebration of her Life at Zion Lutheran Church, 403 1st Street North, Beausejour, MB on Thursday, March 8th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bart Coleman officiating.  The service will conclude at the church following the tolling of the church bell.  Join us for fellowship in the Zion church hall.

We would like to express our sincere thank you to all the “angels here on Earth” who have crossed our paths, helping and supporting us throughout this journey with our loving mother.

Mom, it’s time to put your hard working hands to rest and may God keep you safe in his loving arms.  We love you and will miss you dearly.
