Richard Peter Simcoe

August 4, 1947 — January 9, 2015

August 4, 1947 ~ January 9, 2015

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Richard (Sam) Simcoe, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Richard will be forever remembered by his wife Joyce, his children Charlotte (Clint) and Troy (Kerri).  Papa will also be missed by his grandchildren Kaden, Liam, Ethan and Ella.  Richard was predeceased by his mother Frances, father Pete, sister Violet and brother in-law Bill.

Dad was a naturally talented man.  He loved to work with his hands building and painting many beautiful craft pieces of wood.  In his early years he worked as a mechanic, who many relied on to fix anything.  In 1976 he started working for JS Redpath who he was very committed and loyal to, working with them until his passing.  He was a well-respected miner, Supervisor and Superintendent winning many awards and acknowledgements for his supervisory roles and hard work.  When he was not working he could be found building in his workshop, picking blueberries in the bush or sitting in his favorite patio chair on a warm summer day.  Dad enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teasing them and poking fun, watching school concerts and attending as many of their hockey games as he could.  Richard will be remembered by those who knew him for his quick wit, storytelling and not always appropriate jokes.

A celebration of Dad’s life will be held later this spring.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the Lac du Bonnet RCMP and ambulance attendants for their professionalism and support during this difficult time.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations in his name can be made to the “Centennial School Playground Fund” at Box 219, Lac du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0 or Lac du Bonnet Slow Pitch League, Box 99, Lac du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0, for the new ball park.

Rest in peace.  We love you.
