Robert Rittwage

March 28, 1945 — March 28, 2012

1945 ~ 2012

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Robert Rittwage on Saturday, July 7, 2012.

Robert is survived by his loving wife Anita of 41 years and daughter Steffanie as well as his brother Raymond (June) of Lockport, MB, and many aunts, cousins and friends.  Robert was predeceased by his mother Jessie Rittwage, his father Hubert Edkins, aunts and uncles.

Robert started with Manitoba Hydro as a groundsman in May, 1966.  He worked for Hydro for 40 years as a lineman, district ADO III with the last 6 years as a Tower Line Inspector. Robert retired in 2006.  He really enjoyed working for Hydro and snowmobiling, boating and flying in small planes and helicopters on Hydro’s nickel.  He had many stories to tell about Customer Relations.

In 1985 he joined the Beausejour Fire Department and later became a lieutenant, captain and finally Deputy Fire Chief.  He stepped back from the position of Deputy Fire Chief to encourage the younger members to assist in that area.

Robert was also a part time tow truck driver for Melnick Motors Ltd. as well as doing Dealer Trade pickups and auction purchases.  In this way he was able to have “test drives” on many new and used vehicles.  He really enjoyed riding his motorcycles over the years putting 20,000 km on his most recent ride, a 2009 Burgman.

A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
