June 9, 1937 – November 24, 2016

It is with deepest sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Archie Albert Smith.

Archie was predeceased by his parents Les and Myrtle Smith, and brother Jim. Archie leaves behind to cherish his memories the love of his life Gail, of 57 years, sons Dale (Jeri), Greg (Cindy), Todd (Lorna), Kelly, and grandchildren Dustin, Chantel, Tanner, Mandi, Tegan, Tierney, Darian, Luke, Hayley and Travis, and great-grandchildren Taylor, Ashton, Vayda, Ava, Emmy and Levi. He will also be sadly missed by his sister Marion, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Archie was born on June 9, 1937 in Hamiota, Manitoba. At the early age of 23, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a transport driver with Reimer Express Lines Ltd. He was a dedicated employee and received multiple awards for excellence in his profession. Archie made the company and his family very proud. On retirement at age 60, Archie and Gail moved to Pinawa, Manitoba, where he spent 18 summers working for E.J. Wiebe Transport, and enjoyed 15 winters with Gail as snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona, along with their many close friends. In the last four years, Archie and Gail remained in Pinawa year-round, choosing to spend their time with family and friends. Archie cared for and helped every single person he knew. His passion for building and repairing things was endless. His attention to detail extended from his beautiful home and car to all of his surroundings, everything kept in immaculate condition. Archie’s dedication to his family and friends will never be forgotten. We are all so blessed to have had such an amazing person in our lives and he will live on forever in our hearts.

A celebration of Archie’s life will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street in Winnipeg. Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour in care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

Our deepest sympathy to Gail and family. I got to know Archie very well as he trained me as a
professional and proud transport driver at Reimer Express Lines back in winter of 1973. I always
looked up to him as being the best, as a driver and a friend. He will be deeply missed by all.
