Barry Siebold

Posted By Sobering Funeral Chapel On December 5, 2017 @ 1:35 pm In Obituaries | 14 Comments

It is with a broken heart I announce the passing of my beloved friend, co-worker, constant companion, son and all around wonderful dog Barry Siebold, he was 13.

Barry died at his home on the morning of October 12, 2017.  I held him in my arms and petted him as he fell asleep and passed into doggie heaven.

He was born on Vancouver Island.  We were together since I could hold him in my hands. We found so much pleasure in the simple things; walks through Train Whistle park, finding places to swim, cuddling and playing fetch, his nightly adventure to Burgoyne Station, and his favorite, eating out of his Kong, and finding uncle Ray, because he always had treats.  Barry was wonderful.  He gave me constant, unconditional love and a glimpse into maternal love, for which I’m so grateful.

He leaves his mom Libby, grandma Leah, uncle Pat (Jess); his special grandma (Shirley), girlfriend Autumn, all his co-workers at Sobering’s, especially aunties Rhonda, and Bonnie, his special uncles Ray and Art; aunts Pam and Tess and very special friends Alicia, Destiny and Autumn.

Barry loved his job as a greeter at Sobering Funeral Chapel.

We had a simple funeral for Barry on the day he died. It was a whirlwind really, if time had permitted I would have liked to invite so many more people, but it was just Barry’s co-workers. We buried him under the oak tree behind the funeral home.

Thank you to the staff at the Beausejour Vet Clinic, especially Dr.’s Kurtis and Stephen, and Barry’s special Nail ladies at the vet clinic. Thank you to Fr. Owen for giving Barry a wonderful funeral and the staff at Sobering’s for their care.

I miss you, big guy.

Condolence from Pam Selch on December 5th, 2017 6:13 pm

Oh Libby, I am so sorry for your loss. Before my inlaws sold the land to Soberings, we used to run and play in the field behind the chapel. Know that he is not alone as he is resting there with other family dogs, as that field was a resting place for many of the treasured Selch pets. He’s probably playing a game of chase right now. Hugs. Xo

Libby, I am so sorry to read about Barry. We will miss seeing him swimming in our pond and Winston is going to miss him. It is so hard to lose a BBF like him. He was special. Here is a poem that helps me when I think of my two cats.

Christmas in Heaven
By Wanda Bencke
I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven’s stars, reflecting on the snow
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tear
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear
But the sounds of music can’t compare with the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart
But I am not so far away, we really aren’t apart.
So be happy for me, dear ones, you know I hold you dear.
And be glad I’m spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I sent you each a memory of my undying love.
After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do
For I can’t count the blessing or love he has for each of you
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear
Because remember, I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

Condolence from Elsie Magnusson on December 7th, 2017 5:16 pm

Elsie Magnusson
Here is another poem I had sent to me when they lost their beloved pet.
The Lost Battle
If it should be that i grow frail & weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
for this the last battle can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand, but don’t let grief than stay inyour head,
for on this day more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test
We have had so many happy years
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so when the time comes please let me go.
Take me to where my needs the’ll tend, only please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me until my eyes no longer see
I know in time you will agree,it is a kindness you did for me.
Although my tail it’s last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you,who has to decide this thing to do
We’ve been so close through all these years,Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends.
I have a pet Shi’Tzu and am so attached to her. They are really like family and
we dread the day when God calls them to Doggy Heaven.

Dear Libby,

I’m so sorry for your great loss. Thank you for sharing your story
of your beloved Barry. I wish I could have met him, However, I well remember his lovely picture in your office. I, too, lost my dear 22-year – old cat, Sasha, 12 years ago, when she wandered away to die, alone.

May it be comforting to know that Barry’s spirit lives forever in your heart while he has become your forever guardian angel.

With heartfelt thoughts & sympathy,
Georgina (Schiller) Klassen

Condolence from Jim Fryza on September 11th, 2018 1:39 pm

Sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. He was a very kind and loving dog. I know you absolutely love dogs as at Victor’s Marynewich’s funeral my dog Xi-Xi was invited to the funeral home. He stayed with Barry and the room was filled with dog toys and treats. Barry was lucky to have a loving owner and be at your work and greet the people who visited and worked there.
