We announce the passing of Esther Kretchmer at her residence on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba at the age of 90, following a brief struggle with cancer.

She is lovingly remembered by son Tim (Wanda), daughters Lori (Dave) and Diana; grandchildren Sonya (Greg), Chad, Ryan, Erin, Brooke (Rob); great-grandchildren Tristan, Darius, Tyson, Shelby and Logan; step-brother Erhart; sister-in-law Audry; nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

Esther was predeceased by her parents Gus and Caroline, 5 sisters, 3 brothers, 7 brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law.  Her husband Walter passed away on September 6, 2011.  Esther was the last surviving member of her family.

Esther was born on December 27, 1930, at her parent’s residence in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and lived there until her marriage to Walter in 1951.  They moved to Manitoba shortly after their marriage.

Mom’s faith, family, friends, church, and community involvement were important to her.  She was an active member of Whiteshell Baptist Church, in Seven Sisters Falls, Manitoba.  Mom served as church organist, deaconess, board member, Sunday School and VBS teacher at various times during her membership.  Mom participated in church music programs including singing in the annual Christmas Eve choir cantata until her health began to decline in 2019.  Mom also helped in community groups such as Women’s Auxiliary, Red Cross and assisting at the local seniors’ facility.

Thank you to the church family and community for your support to Mom, especially following Dad’s passing in 2011.  A very special thank you to Linda, Mom’s long-time friend.

Thank you to Dr. Bruneau, Mom’s local physician for his professional and compassionate support; the Lac du Bonnet area palliative and homecare staff, and, to Dr. Liu and staff at CancerCare Manitoba.

Flowers are gratefully declined.  If friends so desire, donations in Esther’s memory may be made to;

Grey Cup Sunday get togethers was a tradition with our families for years, each taking a turn as host. It was not until 1984 we were able to celebrate a Blue Bomber victory. For you sports fanatics, without looking it up, there were at least 2 ex bombers on the Tigers Cats team that year, can you name them. Fond memories of good food, laughter, wood stove heat on a cold November day, great company.
Sorry for your loss, wishing you God’s peace. Love James

Now out here on this road, on this road tonight, I close my eyes and feel so many friends around me in the evening’s closing light, for the miles we have come and the trials won and lost, just so many roads travelled so many rivers crossed. I ask God for the strength and the faith in one another cause you’ll need a good friend on this ride, till life’s final river crossing to the other side. (Blood Brothers)

Just finished watching the livestream of your mom’s memorial. It was the most God centered memorial I have witnessed. Your parents were friends of my parents (Ed and Helen Zink) many years ago. We moved to the city in 1953 but would still go back to River Hills to be with family and friends. Your tribune to your mom was beautiful. I wish I had known her better. May our God of comfort help you to celebrate her home going.

My condolences to Tim and family. If you lived in the dorm at Steinbach we were friends for a few months. I have never forgotten you
