August 28, 1941 ~ July 14, 2022

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ken Legary who passed at the St. Boniface Hospital on July 14, 2022 at the age of 80.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Beverly; his children, Don (Colleen) and Tannis (Ralhf); his grandchildren, Brad and Crystal.

He was a lover of nature and loved to fish and hunt.  He would collect seeds and observe the animals.  Ken loved to be with his family.  He was the youngest of six children and was born in Crystal City and was raised in Pilot Mound.

He was a true entrepreneur and owned numerous businesses throughout his life.  He was a jokester and had an incredible sense of humour.  In the truest sense he lived his life to the fullest.

As per Ken’s request, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service will be held.  Instead, next time you are in nature take a moment and think of Ken.

In lieu of flowers, make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation

Condolence from Tim & Joan Connell on July 17th, 2022 10:12 am

Dear Bev, Tannis, Don and family, Joan, Kelly, and I are very sorry for your loss. Kenny was a special guy. Always the go-to guy for Joan while growing up, then one of the best uncles to Kelly! And yet, Ken and I never (or seldom!) appeared to get along! It was all a ruse, as we had many great and funny times together; roasting shoes and raising corn come to mind! Now, all these beautiful memories are the gift he has left us with. He is at the peace he deserves. We shall miss him. Please take solace that his memory resides in many hearts now—our sincerest love to all.

Bev, Tannis and Don, I am so sorry for your loss. I think of the times we used to head out to the farm for the weekend and race around looking for the treats your grandma hid around the farmhouse! Growing up with the Legary family was one of the best things I got to do! I also think of the time Ken offered me money not to get married so Tannis wouldn’t loose her bestie!!! Lol Ken will be missed! Love you guys. Tina Arsenault (Wolfe)XO

Condolence from Tannis Legary on July 17th, 2022 7:36 pm

If you ever had the chance to meet my dad. You would always remember his charismatic charm & entrepreneur skills. As a child growing up we lived & breathed our family business which was called “Video King” in Fort Richmond area. My dad strived for his family he worked very hard to be the successful man that he was! He challenged me on everything I did. I respected my dad with his wishes. But I did make alot of mistakes along the way but I also made some huge accomplishments. He was very proud of me, he truly loved me & his family. His passions in life was “work work work” but he also was a man that loved the earth we walk on, his favourite flower was “The Lady Slipper”. He cared for his seeds of any flower, fruit or vegetable. He was a true farmer in Pilot Mound,Mb. In the valley area. He hunted, fished & travelled the world. His nick name was “Scooter” he always was scooting around somewhere. He knew how to be very successful in the business world over & over the years. We grew up in later in a home where he designed the swimming pool, new addition & driveway he personally designed. The kitchen at that time had heated floors back then no one knew what that was. Our house on Navin Rd was a party house of all ages. Everyone was welcome to come for a swim & good eats. Everyone loved my dad. Sitting in the kitchen table for hours laughing about stories or playing the guitar & singing. He loved snowmobiling with my brother & his friends. My parents truly loved each-other. July 9th they just celebrated there 56th Wedding Anniversary. My dad will be remembered & missed by so many! My dad was the youngest living “Legary” of his family. Now he can play guitar with Uncle Dwayne & his best friend Billy from Crystal City. I’m truly lucky to have a father like Ken – he defiantly was one of my best friends. Bevy my mom is gonna go through a huge changes but I know she knows that my dad Ken is always with her more now then ever before. Please put your hand on your heart & take a deep breath for my dad. As his heart beat stopped here but his heart will always be remembered. Love you so much Daddy. I have already seen the magical signs you have sent me & my family. We love you always & forever!!!

Thank you Libby Siebold for making my family feel comfortable with everything @ Sobering Funeral Chapel & Crematorium. I appreciate the special care that you did for my dad & made everything just perfect!

Condolence from Morris and Gail on July 17th, 2022 9:36 pm

May the songs of the angels welcome him,
And guide him along his way.
May the smiles of the martyrs greet their own
As darkness turns into day.
Every tear will be undone
and death shall be no more.
As the songs of the angels welcome him,
To his heavenly home.

Good bye dear friend, and thank you for all the laughs.

Condolence from Alvin Legary on July 18th, 2022 4:53 pm

To Bev and Family,
I have many very good memories of Ken and I in our younger days, spending many many hours fishing and hunting deer together. We even talked Mrs. Young (Bevs mom ) to help us clean our large catch of geese. I will always remember the time Ken and I went goose hunting near Stoney Mountain and we landed in prison for a brief time. We had crossed a fence and they thought we were planing a break out with our guns and all the shooting we were doing. There were no signs to warn us so we were caught on the wrong side of the fence. Ken sure did some fast talking for the both of us, thank God they believed him. I still laugh about it now. LOL Ken was like an older brother, I liked to follow around. I loved him and my heart is greaved at his parting. May he rest in Peace. Alvin

So many great memories of Ken and being in the Legary household on Miami Pl. in Fort Richmond. Growing up from the age of 13 Tannis and I were inseparable and needless to say I spent a lot of time at the Legary’s. Ken and Bev were always so welcoming and so fun! There was always a joke around the table when Ken was sitting around it. One of my favourites was in the new house on Navin – there were several parties, however Ken and Bev (and Tannis of course) hosted a jack and jill wedding shower party for us. How gracious and so fun. I am so sorry Tannis, Bev, Donny and families. Such great memories.

Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. Our hearts will be always filled with love and memories we hold dear. Kenny’s Irish eyes showed the love for those he cherished. He always put them first. With grace, courage and strength memories will be passed on along with Kenny’s ever present humour.

We are shocked and sad to hear about Ken. We’ve been lucky enough to be neighbours of Ken and Bev for more than ten years and have celebrated many birthdays together and Christmas get-togethers. Ken gave us two tree seedlings and was generous with his time helping us with the trees. The trees he gave us are huge now! Our thoughts are with you.
