1942 ~ 2015

With broken hearts, our family announces the passing of Lorne Ewasko, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother & uncle. Lorne leaves behind his wife and love of over 50 years Lydia, his sons Wayne (Tracey) and Greg (Monique) and his four cherished grandsons Brayden, Jarvis, Owen and Sam. He also leaves behind his two brothers Art (Pat) and Rick Ewasko, his brother-in-law Jerry (Betty) Kelner and their families. Lorne was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen (Bretchka) Ewasko, parents-in-law Joseph and Mary Kelner, and brother-in-law Joe Kelner

Lorne was born and grew up in the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead, attended Hazelglen School and Beausejour Collegiate Institute. He then achieved his Architecture Draftsman credentials from Red River Community College. His passion was the accordion and he started playing in a band at the age 16. It was his musical talents that led him to meet Lydia in 1962 at a dance. They married on April 25, 1964. He would go on to play in several different bands over the years.

In the fall of 1964, Lorne started working with AC&S, a commercial insulation company, where he worked for approx. 30 years. During this time, he and Lydia moved back to the RM of Brokenhead in 1974 from Winnipeg, built their dream home and began working their own farm land with their two sons. In the fall of 1994, he left AC&S and formed a commercial insulation company, ACE Insulation Ltd. He retired from ACE in January 2007. Lorne and Lydia, sold the family farm site in 2001 and built their retirement home and workshop on the outskirts of Beausejour.

Lorne was a very devoted and proud father who always loved going to watch “his boys” play their many sports, whether it be hockey, curling, or baseball. He was always there cheering them on. This continued when he became a grandfather and he always had a hug, praise and a loonie for his grandsons’ efforts following each and every game. He enjoyed taking his sons camping to Grand Rapids on their annual fishing trip, and he enjoyed curling, golfing and fishing in his younger years. In his retirement years, Lorne loved watching the Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets and wrestling on TV and playing card games. Lorne’s sense of humour was contagious, and he was the life of the party telling stories and jokes that kept people laughing throughout the night.  He had a gift of making people laugh! He also spent many hours tinkering in his shop with his good friend Doug working on one of his many restored cars, trucks and John Deere tractors.

Lorne, Dad, Grandpa & Papa, much of who we are today is a reflection of your love. You will be forever missed and in our hearts always.

Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, in Beausejour, MB. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Drs. Askarifar and Schmidt, the staff at the Beausejour hospital, and his regular hospital visitors for all of their care and support of Lorne over the last several months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Mary Roman Catholic Church Building Fund, Box 760, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0 or to the Beausejour Hospital T.V. Fund, Box 1614, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
