March 11, 1942 ~ December 16, 2020

After a courageous battle against cancer, our beloved wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt, Louise lost her battle at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Gordon; son Daniel; daughter Sandy and her husband Neill, daughter Connie; grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa, David, Curtis, Michael, Maricela, Johnathon, Matthew and Victoria; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

As well she leaves to mourn her passing her sister Esther Strachen of Stony Plain, Alberta, Connie Klippenstein of Kelowna, British Columbia, Eleanor Weedmark of St. Ouens, Manitoba and Linda Adams of Selkirk, Manitoba.

She was predeceased by her parents Ernestine Rattai (Zielke) and Wilhelm Zielke; daughter Valerie; granddaughter Jillian; her brothers, Ernie, Fred, Ed, Sam, Steve, Leonard, Dave and Jack; sisters, Ruth and Frieda.

Louise was born on March 11, 1942 on the homestead in St. Ouens, Manitoba to Ernestine and Wilhelm Zielke.

She grew up on the farm where she learnt the value of hard work and while working caught the eye of her lifelong husband Gordon who she spent 62 1/2 happy loving years with.

She worked alongside of her husband on their dairy operation in Julius, Manitoba where they raised their family. She went on in her later years once her family was grown to work as a nurse’s aide at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, Manitoba for a number of years before retiring.  She was known at East Gate for her compassion and gentleness when caring for the elderly.  Many times, she received special request to sit and comfort the elderly as they passed on.

Once retired she had the opportunity to do some travelling.  She was amazed at her first sight of the mountains in British Columbia as she was awed by the sight of Niagara Falls. She along with her husband also did some air travel but was happiest just being at home spending time with family and friends.

One of her favorite past times was doing puzzles.  She could sit for endless hours working on beautiful scenic puzzles, then glazing and gifting her favorites.

She was a wonderful and patient wife, mother, grandmother and ultimately great-grandmother who will be missed beyond measure.

The family would like to extend a “Thank you” to the staff at both the Beausejour Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for the comfort and care provided in her final hours.

So sorry for your loss! I have many fond memories of her. She was a lady who told you as she saw it and didn’t beat around the bush. I admired her for that.
You will all be in my thoughts and prayers!

Condolence from Carol Jorde-Long on December 22nd, 2020 12:49 pm

Uncle Gordon, Cousins Daniel, Sandy, Connie and Families. In this difficult time as you say goodbye to your wife/mother, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. As you celebrate her life there will be lots of hugs, tears, memories, and stories. Her memory will always remain in your heart. May you find comfort.

As a child; our summer holidays were spent traveling to Manitoba. At an early age my parents instilled the importance of getting to know our grandparents, aunt, uncles and cousins. This stayed with me in later life. After I married we continued our trips to Manitoba stopping to visit extended family. On one of my last trips to Beausejour I’m glad that I was able to visit with Uncle Gordon and Aunt Louise.
She will be missed.
Love Carol (Zielke) Jorde-Long (Sam and Stella’s daughter).

Condolence from Amanda Botincan on December 23rd, 2020 7:47 pm

Dear family. I am humbled and shocked by the sudden parting of my dear friend and coworker. Louise and I really enjoyed working together whenever our shifts allowed. When we showed up together, we knew we were going to have a great day.
I’m so glad I attended their recent celebration. It was nice to reminisce about old happy times.
She also showed and explained to me the display of photos. I could tell by just looking at her face how proud she was of everyone and the immense love she had for their grandchildren ❤️❤️
I’m blessed to have had her in my life.

To Gordon and family
We are sorry to hear of Louise’s passing and extend our sincere condolences. She was always happy to see us and even though she was soft spoken she always made sure to share some time and ask how everybody was doing. She will surely be missed
