It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Manfred Gunther Rueckert, at the age of 89 on January 6, 2022.

Dad was born in Schlesien Germany to Alfred and Else Rueckert on February 6th, 1932. Dad is survived by his children Marianne Mester of Germany; Alfred Rueckert (Jeanne) of Winnipeg; Alvin Rueckert (Zenda)of Beausejour; Nancy Sharpe (Rob) of Beausejour; and Debbie Rueckert (Darron) of Steinbach; one sister Helga Buchman of Germany; brother and sister in laws John and Gisella Broek of Beausejour; Bernadine Mueller of Beausejour; Eddie and Agnes Hiller also of Beausejour; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Dad was predeceased by his wife Greitje, his parents Alfred and Else Rueckert, son Gerhard, sister Inge Ohsterloh brother in laws Okko and Hermann Broek and sister in laws Gretchen, Hermina, and Jannet.

At an early age dad immigrated to West Germany, and worked on a farm where he met Greitje Broek, who he would eventually marry in 1953.  Mom and dad immigrated to Canada in 1954 and settled in Whitemouth.  Dad worked for the Manitoba Highways Department for thirty-five years before retiring in 1992.  One of Dad’s loves was birds of any kind.  For many years he raised everything from canaries to peacocks.  Animals of any kind usually brought a smile to his face.  He and Mom relocated to Beausejour in 2003, where they resided before health reasons forced their final move to East Gate Lodge.

Dad was a kind-hearted, humours, soft spoken, hard-working man who always supported the family he loved so dearly.  We never heard a mean word come from him.  He was a man of deep faith throughout his life.  Family meant the world to Dad, and we his children thought we had won a lottery if he actually remembered the name of his grand children.  He loved family functions where he would be inundated by his grandchildren because everyone loved to talk to Opa.

We the family would also like to our express our gratitude to the staff at East Gate Lodge for the love, attention, and respect that they gave Dad during his stay with them.

Dad you will always live on in the hearts of your children and grandchildren, and you will never be forgotten. We love you Dad, enjoy your new home. Rest in peace you wonderful man.

Condolence from Wally & Marlene Cyncora on January 7th, 2022 6:34 pm

I am so saddened to hear of Manfred’s passing. He was the best neighbor anyone could have. We loved to get together for tea and of course good laughs. His sense of humour was so endearing. He was a very kind and helpful man. Hugs and condolences to the family.

Condolence from Meghan Goethals on January 8th, 2022 9:12 am

My most sincere condolences to your family. Manfred was the best neighbour to me, he always looked out for me. He kept the driveway clear in the winter and in the summer I would find him sneaking around the bushes keeping them trimmed. I always joked that I didn’t need a home security system because I had Manfred living next door. He has truly been missed since his departure of Rueckerts nest on Oak ave. And now he will be missed that much more.

Condolence from Dennis & Rosalie Lofstrom on January 8th, 2022 10:44 am

Our deepest sympathies to you Alvin and family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all. Dennis & Rosalie

Condolence from Elaine Fehr on January 8th, 2022 1:34 pm

Our sincere sympathies to each of the family members and friends who are now experiencing the whole left from Manfred’s passing. I think that’s the first time I’ve ever used his name!!! My immediate memories are of sugar lumps in tea and tasty little cookies that were not touched until we prayed. “Mr. Ruekert “ would pray in German first and then in English. He told me once that German was God’s language and English was the interpretation!!! I am thankful for the testimony lived out in that house and today I celebrate with the angels over a life well lived and now welcomed home. I pray for God’s peace to be with each of you as you grieve and celebrate! Love Elaine and Ron Fehr

Condolence from Lindsay on January 8th, 2022 3:23 pm

I am saddened to hear of Manny’s passing. He was one of my favorite residents at east gate during my time there. I remember when he broke his hip a few years ago he was determined to walk and always said “no pain” because he believed that garlic cloves was gods medicine. He was always full of jokes, and always knew how to put a smile on our faces. Manny was one of those stubborn, but yet full of sass men that would refuse help even when he knew he needed it. Always carrying around a comb in his Walker basket incase a piece of hair was out of place. He was always dressed to impress the “ladies” on the unit. Manny you will deeply missed. I hope your up there rekindling with your beloved wife who you’ve missed so deeply.

My sincere condolences nancy & family – a big social distanced hug coming your way.

We were very saddened to hear the news of Manfred’s passing, and as was said at his funeral, we do rejoice that he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We were honored to know him through church for nearly the past 5 years; we were always blessed by his passionate prayers in German, and his infectious smiles and hugs! Condolence from Bernie & Diane Broek and Family on January 14th, 2022 12:46 pm

Our deepest condolences to our cousins and family. We have some wonderful memories of visiting with Uncle Manfred and Tante Grace over the years. The best was the fellowship and love they bestowed on everyone and the example of living with faith.
Uncle Manfred had a great sense of humor too, he loved to banter with people, always making us laugh. We shall miss him greatly.
