1926 ~ 2017

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  Mike was born September 25, 1926 on the family farm in Kerry District, MB. He left this life on April 7, 2017. Growing up he worked on the farm and the timber sales with his Dad and brother Louis.  At age 27 he started to work for the MB Dept. of Highways – Bridge Div. working his way up to supervisor. When he retired at age 60 Mike and Lil moved to Beausejour to be closer to their family.

Mike was an avid hunter with his motto being “one shot, one deer”. Each fall, until he was 83, he enjoyed hunting with his son in-law, Neil, and his three grandsons. Mike loved berry picking and gardening. Over the years his beautiful garden produced some of the biggest tomatoes, potatoes and pumpkins in Beausejour.

Remaining to forever cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Lillian, children Audrey Miller (Neil), Dianne Babiak (John), grandchildren Barret Miller, Troy Miller (Sara), and Jonathan Babiak (Patty), and great grandchildren Colby and Wyatt Miller. He is survived by sisters Tillie Klymchuk, Margaret Klymchuk, Isabel Maksymyk, Judy Penner (Ernie), Betty Perron (Paul) and brother Richard Wirgau (Denise), sisters in-law Mary Kolodka (Ben) and Thelma Hogue (Doug), brothers in-law Ted (Monica) and Ernie Schure and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by parents Frank Wirgau and Augusta (nee Rentz) and stepmother Olga, his in-laws Vera and Joe Fuchs, sisters Mary Kalweit, Emma Schachtay, Ella Horn, brothers Louis Wirgau and Harold Wirgau, brothers in-law Bill Klymchuk, Tony Maksymyk, Emil Kalweit, Gary Fuchs, Eddie Fuchs, sister in-law Phyllis Schure, and nephews Billy Klymchuk and Bradley Wirgau.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Beausejour. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Family and family times were always important to Mike. We will miss you and love you forever!
