It is with resigned sadness but deepest respect we announce the passing of our mother, Anne (Sitarz) Lucko on September 19, 2026 at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her 9 siblings (Tony, Charlie, Casey, Walter, Eddie, Johnny, Mary, Frances, Katie) and leaves behind the youngest, her brother, Joey. Sadly, she endured the unimaginable pain no parent should ever have to bear when, 12 years ago, she laid her beloved son, Wayne, to rest. She leaves behind her 3 daughters (Connie, Brenda, Sharon), 7 grandchildren (Lindsay, Tyler, Erin, Carly, Duncan, Taylor, Kendra) and 8 great grandchildren.

Mom spent her childhood in the Cooks Creek area. She was working at Eaton’s Department store in Winnipeg when she met Mike Lucko, her husband of 74 years. Together they raised 4 children in Beausejour where our dad worked many hours outside of the home and mom “held down the fort”, as my dad would say, and raised the family. She truly was the unsung hero.

Swimming lessons on Saturdays in Winnipeg, piano lessons, church events, homemade meals, parent/teacher conferences—all were a part of our mother’s repertoire in moving us forward in life.

Never a frown—always a smile.

Never travelled—always willing to try as she travelled with our dad to such faraway places like New Zealand, Fiji, Morocco and Spain.

Never a swimmer—yet enrolled in swim classes to be an example for us who often complained about the trips to Winnipeg on our Saturdays.

Never went to finishing school—yet had the social graces incumbent of a foreign diplomat. She greeted everyone with what we knew as a “Queen Elizabeth smile” and a gracious greeting to match.

Never complained—was there when we needed her. Like her large Polish family upbringing, she always “showed up”.

Our mom was able to live independently with our dad and their dog, Fin, in

their home my dad built at the age of 80. This rare privilege was made possible

through the legacy she left behind, as exemplified by our sister Sharon and her husband Mark who “showed up” faithfully every week, and then some, to give back what she had taught us by living her values with unconditional love.

That is the legacy our mother, Anne Lucko, left for ALL of us to pass on.

One by one your

feathers fell—

like petals in a gentle

breeze—

to make a nest

for heavy wings,

The family would like to extend our utmost gratitude to all the staff at Beausejour Hospital for the compassionate care provided to our mother during her stay. To those of you who may have met our mother, you may recall her voicing her appreciation as she would frequently say “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You’re a sweetheart.”

Funeral Service with the celebration of this remarkable life will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.
