It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother and Deedee, Donna Frederick, on March 8, 2026 at the Pinawa Hospital.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband David, daughters Megan (DJ) and Kathleen, as well as the lights of her life: grandsons Brady, Cooper and Riggs. She will also be missed by sisters-in-law Brenda and Alice, nieces Stephanie (Bobby) and Tonya (Wesley), nephews Steven, Scott (Kamma) and Tyler (Darnell), as well as many friends and family members.
Donna was lovingly greeted in the afterlife by those she missed so dearly: her parents Norm and Amy, brother Gord, in-laws Beth and Slim, brothers-in-law Glen and Gavin, as well as numerous friends and family members.
Donna was born on November 20, 1956 in Trail, BC. She spent years in Remac, Brittania and then Squamish before meeting the love of her life, David. Together, they moved back to his home province of Manitoba; first to Winnipeg and then settling in St. Georges, where they lived for the past 39 years. After her daughters were both school-aged, Donna returned to work as a dental assistant at Powerview Dental, where she made many lifelong friends.
Donna was finally diagnosed with AL amyloidosis over a decade ago, after years of symptoms that forced her into early retirement. After all of these years, her family is still approached by people who say that Donna made their dental appointments so much more relaxing, as she would comfort her patients and hold their hands if she could tell they were anxious.
Donna lived her life being kind and caring to everyone, and she always remembered your birthday. She was very thoughtful, sending out cards or little gifts for milestones in her friends and family's lives. You could always count on her, and she was always a shoulder to cry on or someone who would be there if you needed anything. Even as her health declined and she faced many challenges, she always remained positive, said "Oh well, what can we do", and would still put everyone else first. She was an amazing, wonderful woman, and the world was a better place with her in it.
Her group of friends were so supportive, and are truly the best. Tammy, Tracy, Ginette, June, Annette, Kari, Lisa, Diane, Bunny and Paula (just to name a few), your visits and messages kept her in touch with the outside world and helped her through her long hospital stays. We apologize if we missed anyone, as she was so loved.
The way our community came together for her and the outpouring of support she received in the last month has left us speechless.
The family would like to thank her dear friends, Ginette and June, for being there when she took her last breath, supporting her daughter Kathleen and surrounding her with love. We would also like to give a big thank you to Dr. Ota for the outstanding care and compassion that she gave Donna over the years. Without her persistence, she would have never received her diagnosis, which greatly impacted the treatments she received. We are forever grateful for you.
Lastly, we have to give a HUGE thank you to the nurses, health care aids, doctors and support staff at the Pinawa Hospital. The loving, amazing care she received over the past year has blown us away. We are so happy she was there and treated as though she was a family member. We could not have asked for a better staff and facility to care for her in her final months, and words cannot express our gratitude. They were so caring towards our family, and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Donna did not want a formal service, but a Celebration of Life will be taking place on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 4 p.m. at the Pine Falls Curling Club.
In lieu of flowers, Donna would like you to live the way that she did, and do a good deed for someone else.
