Doreen Romanishen, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, Manitoba, her hometown, on January 27, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on March 15, 1943, in Green Bay, Manitoba, Doreen dedicated her life to nurturing her family and the community around her.
As a farmer in Seddons Corner alongside her late husband, Alex Romanishen, who predeceased her on April 3, 2020, Doreen took pride in her many roles. She was a loving mother to five children—Cindy Matychak, Terry (Christine) Romanishen, Darrell Romanishen, Glenn Romanishen, and Todd (Tammy) Romanishen—as well as a skilled farm homemaker. Doreen expertly ran the combine, drove grain trucks, and operated tractors. She skillfully patched fences, fed cattle, and helped with veterinary care, delivering calves while knowing instinctively when a cow was about to calve. Her talent for managing the farm extended beyond the fields; she raised a farm girl and farm boys, instilling in them a deep appreciation for hard work and the land.
Doreen was a remarkable homemaker, canning fruits and vegetables, baking buns, preparing hearty meals, tending to the garden, sewing clothes, caring for livestock, and managing the family's finances. Despite growing up in modest circumstances, she consistently put her family's needs ahead of her own, often sacrificing her own comforts to ensure everyone was well-fed and cared for. Her gentle, kind, and compassionate spirit made her a pillar of strength for those around her.
A lover of music, Doreen enjoyed listening to her favorite artists, especially Alan Jackson and Johnny Reid. In her youth, she was part of a musical group with her sisters in the 1950s, performing as “The Bachman Sisters”. They sang together, harmonizing beautifully and performing live on the radio, sharing their love of music with everyone around them.
Her family legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jeff Matychak, Candice (Matthew) Crockett, Tiffany Chamberlain, Jade Romanishen, Ridge (Nick) Romanishen, Jasmine Ottenson, Carrie (Shawn) Muth, TJ Romanishen, Tianna Romanishen, Michael Hleck, and Ariel Murray. Doreen and Alex cherished attending their grandchildren's activities, including plays, graduations, gymnastics competitions, hockey games, cheerleading events, soccer matches, baseball games, and many other special moments. She was proud to be a great-grandmother to Ruby, Lincoln, Everley, Kenzie, Amelia, Milaya, Ja'Niyah, Braden, Amber, Clarissa, and David.
Doreen was predeceased by her son Darrell Romanishen, her father Adolph Bachman, her mother Dorothy Bachman (Milbrandt), and her sisters Elaine Bachman and Geraldine Herda, alongside her beloved husband, Alex Romanishen.
A dedicated volunteer, Doreen devoted 23 years to Togs & Treasures in Beausejour, where she served on the board of directors and managed various administrative responsibilities, along with the manual tasks necessary to support community needs. Her hard work and commitment positively impacted the community, and she was deeply missed after her retirement.
Known for her unwavering kindness and generosity, Doreen was the rock of her family, building cherished relationships with her siblings and extending love and support to all.
A celebration of life and interment of ashes will be held this summer. The family will share details in advance.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doreen's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba at alzmb@alzheimer.mb.ca, or visit https://alzheimer.mb.ca. Doreen's legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
