Evelyn passed away peacefully in the early hours of February 16. Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her large legacy of family.
Evelyn’s life started in Fort Alexander, born to Joe Michelle and Elizabeth Fontaine. One of eleven children, she attended the Fort Alexander Residential School as many of her siblings did. At the young age of 14, she fell in love with Alex LaForte and started a family. In the 53 years of marriage they went on to have 9 children who were loved deeply,
Together they shared a beautiful life. Their life would wind from the north shore of Lake Winnipeg, to Bisset and then settling in Lac du Bonnet. After raising her 9 children, she returned to school and post-secondary training. She had had several positions in Lac du Bonnet but later worked in Sagkeeng at the Treatment Centre and George M. Guimond Personal Care Home. In her spare time and after retiring, she was very committed to the Lac du Bonnet Legion and cherished the camaraderie and the important community work that it accomplished.
Her life was about her family, friends and community. She was kind, loving, friendly and could be a fierce protector. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Margaret, Harold, Jeanette, Roland, Isabelle, Alvin, Verne and Michelle. Evelyn had numerous grandchildren who thought the world of her, she will be missed by them all: Cora, Myles, Trevor, Todd, Brittany, Shawna-Lee, Corey, Keith, Kyle, Dalton, Danielle and Alex. Evelyn had 17 great-grandchildren: Alec, Anders, Jakob, Alexis, Kerstin, Gabriella, Sierra, Lukas, Jeremy, Brooke, Madison, Allanah, Kaden, McKenzie, Cole, Luke, and Josie. The legacy continues with 3 great-great grandchildren: Audrina, Aubrey and Jaxon.
Evelyn will be missed by her two remaining siblings, Madeline and Harold.
Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband Alex, her son Robert and grandson Wesley. She was also predeceased by her siblings Louis, Henry, Molly, Lillian, Lucy, Mildred, Francis and Margaret. She also truly missed her son-in-law Glenn and daughter-in-law Joanna.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care that Evelyn received at the Pinawa Hospital, Pine Falls Personal Care Home and Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home. We would also like to acknowledge her many visits from her niece Marge, who always made her laugh and smile.
Her acknowledgement of life will happen at the Fort Alexander Roman Catholic Church. Viewing will commence on Saturday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Following will be a gathering and reception at the Lac du Bonnet Legion at 3:30 p.m.
