Germain John Joseph
Gallant
March 11, 1955 – April 29, 2026
Germain passed away at home with his wife Michelle and niece Jacqueline by his side at age 71 on April 29, 2026. He will be sadly missed by his wife Michelle, siblings Jeanne D’arc Thibert, Diane Schipper, Yvan (Louise), Claire, Louis, Yvette (Jim) Stevenson, Annette and Brother- in-Law Kelly (Laurie) Gosselin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a great-great niece and great-great nephew. Germain was predeceased by his parents Noe and Rolande, his sister Laura, brother Andre, brothers-in-law Theodore Schipper, Guy Thibert and Larry Tarasenco, niece Nicole Gallant and great-nephew Maverick Gallant.
Germain was born in Steinbach, Mb the 4th child of 10 and 1st boy. He had meningitis at birth, and his parents were told he wouldn’t likely make it to morning, but he did. No one yet knew how strong, athletic and tough he would be. Germain and his family moved to St. Boniface when he was 5 yrs old. Germain loved living in St. B and grew up there playing all sports and was exceptionally skilled at hockey. It is also there where he met numerous lifelong friends. He first started working at Feed-Rite at a young age with his dad. That is where he caught the Truck Driver bug and eventually hit the road East, West and South for months at a time only coming home to see his family and get laundry done for short periods. He did that for many years until his love of St. B drew him back to work at Beatrice as a Milk Truck delivery driver. It was at the end of that job that he met Michelle in May 1996 and his long bachelorhood ended. They married June 28, 2003, and moved the following year to Seddons Corner July 2004. Germain then got his 1st then 2nd “Pete” (Semi) which is still his baby. He then started working for himself hauling gravel and asphalt until Aug 2025. During that period, he also did the Winter Road runs which he truly enjoyed.
Germain also loved playing golf, fishing and watching his favourite teams the Winnipeg Jets & the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Germain had a huge personality and no one that met him (good or bad) soon forgot him. He was always there to help a friend or family member if needed. He also loved animals of all kinds and rescued many over the years.
His family are all so thankful for all the good times they had together and take comfort knowing that his long struggle with cancer has ended and he now rests in peace.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held for Germain on June 15, 2026 from 2-4 pm at Notre Dame Recreation Centre – 271 Ave de la Cathedrale.
