It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Betel Home in Selkirk, Manitoba, at the age of 85, with her family by her side.

Irene was a loving and well-loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Irene’s greatest passion was her family, and her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. She loved nothing more than having them around-baking cookies, playing with them, sharing laughter, and making memories that they will carry with them forever. Her love for her family was at the heart of everything she did.

Irene will be a sadly missed by her husband, Donald Schmidt; her son, Michael (Kathy) Lacroix; her daughter, Brenda Lee (Randy) Olafson; her stepsons, Michael and Donald Schmidt; her grandsons, Aurrie Olafson and Eric (Jen) Olafson; her granddaughters, Nichole (James) Lacroix Lavallee and Janae (Lennart) Klassen; her great-grandchildren, Axel, Branson, Reid, Baileigh, Nova, Bentley, Oakley, Gracie, Mia, and Aidin; and her brother, Frank Singbeil.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law, Harvey (Betty) Lacroix; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Russell) Hebb; nieces and nephews Derrick, Noella, Leanne, Kayla, and Courtney; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Lacroix, and sister-in-law, Jocelyn Singbeil.

Irene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Betel Home in Selkirk for their kindness, compassion, and support.

Fulfilling Irene’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
