Obituary

Goodbye Mom, rest in the arms of Jesus.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Judith Platford on May 16, 2026 with her family by her side.

Judy is survived by her devoted husband, Douglas Platford; her children, Joye, Jonathon (Leanne), and Cameron (Charlene); and her cherished granddaughter, Hayley. She also leaves behind her brother Lawrence (Cathy) of Adelaide, Australia, as well as many dear friends, nieces, nephews, and neighbours. She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Eddie (2004), and her father, Sergeant Lawrence Eddie (RCAF, 1944).

Judy grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, a time in her life she always reflected upon with great fondness, especially growing up alongside her cousins, the Bawden and Kelly families. She attended Machray and Champlain elementary schools, St. John's High School, and St. John's Presbyterian Church. It was during these early years that she formed a lifelong bond with her kindergarten best friend, Margaret (Gord).

Fate stepped in when Judy attended the wedding of another best friend, Norma (Gary), where she met the love of her life, Doug. The two were married in 1969. They shared a memorable honeymoon at the Wendigo Resort in Lac du Bonnet before moving to Calgary. In 1973, they relocated to Pinawa with their children Joye and Jonathon, completing their family with the arrival of Cameron in 1974. Judy treasured her role as a mother and homemaker, pouring her heart into raising her family and creating a warm, welcoming home. She also thoroughly enjoyed attending many Platford gatherings throughout the years.

Judy was an active and involved member of the Pinawa community. Proud of her Presbyterian roots and her commitment to ecumenical fellowship, she belonged to the Pinawa Christian Fellowship Church. Over the years, she sang in the church choir and served on the worship committee, later serving as an elder and a hospital visitor in the late 1990s. For 32 years, she was known fondly as Pinawa's favorite "Avon Lady." She also served on the Eastern Manitoba Concert Association (EMCA) board, managing hospitality for concerts, and spent many hours working at the local arena newsstand, always ready to support her children in their various activities.

The last three years brought health challenges, and our family is immensely grateful for the exceptional care she received from healthcare workers, especially the staff on the Rose Unit for dementia care at East Gate Lodge.

Mom, we take comfort in knowing that you are whole and well once again,

singing beautifully in a heavenly choir.

Until we meet again, sending all our hugs and kisses.

— Your Loving Family
