It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Karl on March 14, 2026. He passed peacefully in his sleep with his wife Gert by his side.

Karl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gert, sons Karl (Jeannette), Jon (Jen), Chris (Becky) and honorary son Jay (Jen), grandchildren Johann, Zack, Anna (Bryan), Brianna, Cyanna, Zenna, Yolen, Justice, Lailah, and Daphne (Tristin), great grandchildren Dimitri, Zenith, Ellie, Hazel, Clementine, and Adalinn, sister Marianne (Arend), brother George (Liz), sister in-law Terry Weimar, brothers in-law Kim (Donna) and Curtis. He was predeceased by his parents Johann and Katharina Weimar and brother Peter Weimar.

Karl was born in Rüsselsheim, Germany on December 6, 1949. He immigrated to Canada when he was 3 years old.

Karl and Gert were married on August 28, 1971 and had 3 boys. They lived in Grand Marais for 30+ years and then bought in Lac du Bonnet where they live until present time; Karl worked for Grewinski Trucking.

Karl drove long haul for 50 years, the last 6 years with his wife Gert. They travelled across Canada and the U.S. and enjoyed their time travelling together.

Karl enjoyed spending time with his sons hunting and fishing. In the last few years his hobbies were wood working and painting and puttering in his garage and yard.

The family would like to thank Dr. Van Rensburg for the special care he took of Karl. Also, the EMS and RCMP that responded to his home and to Sobering’s for caring for Karl.

As per Karl’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
