Lorna Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her, passed away suddenly on August 30th, 2026, at the age of 65 in her home.

Born February 14th in Arborg, Manitoba, Lorna Smith was the youngest daughter of Hernit and Evelyn Bardarson. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Todd; children, Tierney [Ryan] and Darian; grandson, Elliot; siblings Carol, Lily [Wayne], Dennis, and Valdine; and pets, Buddy, Pippi, and Milo. She was preceded in death by Hernit and Evelyn Bardarson; Roy Gudmundson and Clarence Bush; and her beloved cat, Zeus.

Lorna met Todd in 1989, and together they built a dream life filled with love and serenity.

Above all else, Lorna was a devoted mother. She raised two children with a fierce love that never wavered. She had the ability to make others feel loved, welcomed, and included in all areas of her life. Lorna loved to cook and bake for family, holidays and events, or simply for Sunday dinner - a tradition she made happen with her husband and children as often as she could.

Over her years she worked with the University of British Columbia; the Ombudsman office; Manitoba Public Insurance; Elections Canada; and Sobeys. During her 29 years at MPI, she often participated in fundraisers and events such as dragon boat racing or cycling for cancer. During that time while raising two children, she worked to get her master’s degree in psychology before taking time away from school to focus on herself and her family. After her 3 years working for Red River College, she retired and began a part-time position at Sobey’s before retiring permanently to care for her grandson full-time for 3 years.

Those who knew her remember she was passionate about gardening, animals, baking, and cooking, but family and happiness were her ultimate purpose.

A celebration of life will be held on October 3rd, 1:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg MB. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cancer Care Manitoba - www.cancercare.mb.ca/Ways-To-Help/donate
