Nettie Yakielashek, 83, of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away on July 20, 2026.
Born March 25, 1943, to Katie and Steve Monchka in Volga, Manitoba, Nettie was the second youngest of four children: Victoria, Veronica, and Elmer (Linda).
Nettie began her career as a health care assistant at the Winnipegosis Hospital, before meeting her husband, Chris, and marrying on September 28, 1963.
Nettie and Chris lived in Riverton, Selkirk, and Gimli, before settling in Winnipegosis, and later moving to Winnipeg.
Nettie worked at the hospitals in Selkirk and Winnipegosis, before moving to Winnipeg where she briefly worked for Medox, then spent 25 years working at Holy Family Nursing Home before retiring in Winnipeg.
Mom loved spending time in her kitchen cooking and baking for loved ones. She enjoyed time in her garden, playing scrabble with friends, but most importantly she cherished her family more than anything.
Nettie is survived by her children Wayne (Karen) Yakielashek, MaryAnn (Jim) Greenway, Joe (Arlene) Yakielashek, Alan Yakielashek, Jamie (Sandra) Yakielashek; grandchildren Jordan (Keegan) Yakielashek, Sara (Alain) Berube, Brendan (Michaela) Yakielashek, Kayla (Blake) Yakielashek, Grayson and Jaida Yakielashek; great-grandchildren Claire, Thomas, Everett, Linden, Oliver, Brielle; and by her in-laws Sylvester and Hazel Yakielashek, Phyllis Yakielashek and Debbie Yakielashek.
Nettie is predeceased by her husband Chris; parents Katie and Steve Monchka; mother-in-law Cassie Yakielashek, father-in-law Mike Yakielashek; sister Victoria (Nick Galay), brothers-in-laws Peter Swintak, Henry (Mary) Yakielashek, Alfred Yakielashek, and Michael Yakielashek.
A service will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church (400 Day Street), Winnipeg, MB, officiated by Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel.
Interment will take place Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery in Sifton, Manitoba.
