Paul Eric Nikolai Feilberg

May 21, 1953 – June 11, 2026

Paul Eric Nikolai Feilberg died peacefully at Pinawa Hospital on June 11, 2026, at the age of 73. The family thanks the staff for the care he received in his last days.

He was born in Winnipeg on May 21, 1953. He was the youngest of four children born to Nikolai and Esther Feilberg of East Braintree, Manitoba where he lived most of his life.

At the age of six months, he was hospitalized with meningitis and almost died; but he survived thanks to the many prayers and strong antibiotics, though it affected him for the rest of his life, with partial deafness and later, epileptic seizures. Despite these obstacles, he was able to lead a normal life. He completed his elementary education at Midwinter School in East Braintree and went on to Whitemouth High School. He worked for Manitoba Forestry for many years, first on a fire-tac crew fighting forest fires, then at the Pineland Tree Nursery at Hadashville and later for the Parks Branch at West Hawk Lake in the Whiteshell. Paul traveled by motorbike with his friend Henning Helesoe to BC and stayed to work in Rocky Mountain House, AB in the early 1980’s.

In October 1987 Paul married Jeannette Dupré and adopted her daughters Cheri-Anne and Candice. Their son, Benjamin, was born in 1989. Paul is survived by his ex-wife, Jeannette, who has been a strong support to him, especially in his last months of his illness, their children, Cheri-Anne, Candice and Benjamin and five granddaughters; Jasmyn, Sarah, Danielle, Denise and Hailey. He is also survived by his two sisters, Lorna Annell and Margaret Feilberg (Bill Stevenson), his sisters-in-law, Annette Feilberg, Yvonne (Randell). Brothers-in-law, Mike (Audrey), Leo (Silvana), many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nikolai (1996), Esther (2002), His only grandson, Nathaniel in May 2011, his brother Lawrence Feilberg in April 2025, his in-laws Lucille and Jules Dupré and his brother-in-law Niels Annell.

Paul loved cowboy hats. He left behind one for each of his five granddaughters. He always wore blue jeans, boots and fancy belt buckles. He took up the hobby of woodcarving, winning a prize in the 1980’s at the Eastman Juried Art Exhibition.

He always had a dog and his latest dog, Marmaduke, will miss him too. He liked to collect treasures he found while riding around in the Parks garbage truck in the Whiteshell.

One highlight for his retirement years was working alongside his friend, Dave McCallum, (a wheelwright) and his brother-in-law, Bill Stevenson to rebuild the “Yellow Fellow” antique wagon at the Midwinter Heritage Museum.

Paul was most proud of his kids, their accomplishments and the people they were becoming in the world. He traveled to Edmonton to visit Candice, to Vancouver to visit Ben and saw Cheri-Anne, his five granddaughters in southern Manitoba, He was looking forward to Danielle’s high school graduation and for his upcoming great-granddaughter’s birth, later this July. He had a large family who adored him and will miss him dearly.

The family will gather later in June to honor Paul’s memory and his ashes will be interred at the East Braintree Cemetery where he was the chief grave digger for many years.
