Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, Raymond Wayne Kryschuk, who passed away at his home on October 2, 2026, at the age of 77.

Raymond will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Roy (Pat) Kryschuk; sister-in-law, Mary Kryschuk; and his nieces and nephews: Sharon Dugard, Leslie (Laurie) Meyers, Charlene (Keith “Stoney”) Stobert, Tammy Opyc, David (Chantelle) Kryschuk, Darren Kryschuk, Tracy (Ted) Simmons, and Clayton (Melissa) Kryschuk. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family and many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Helen Kryschuk; his siblings, John Kryschuk, Kay (Nick) Holigroski, Jean (Stanley) Gmiterek, and Eleanore (Leonard) Meyers; and his nephews, Lorne Holigroski, Randy Gmiterek, and Jason Kryschuk.

Raymond was a skilled heavy-duty mechanic who loved the outdoors and adventure. He began his career as a diesel mechanic with Powell Equipment in 1970. Over the years, he also worked for the Dept. of Highways, Horbas Transport, Gusta Sod, and Manitoba Parks in Whiteshell Park, where he remained until retiring in 2014. During his time with Horbas, he travelled north to Chesterfield Inlet to work on equipment used to build winter roads—an experience he remembered fondly.

Raymond also owned a Caterpillar dozer. He used it to clear his farmland in the Brightstone area, which he continued to farm until retirement, and he did dozer work for many neighbouring farmers.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and flying. A small-plane pilot, he earned his private pilot licence through the Winnipeg Flying Club in 1986. He was also a founding member of the Brokenhead Trail Blazers Power Toboggan Club, formed in 1970 at Crossroads General Store in Brokenhead (King’s Corner). Raymond served as the club’s first Secretary/Treasurer and returned to the role for several separate terms over the years. He volunteered whenever he could, repairing equipment, cutting firewood, and clearing trails.

Whether he was exploring by snowmobile, fishing with his friends Perry and Albert, or taking to the skies, Raymond found great enjoyment in the activities he loved. These interests were an important part of his life and will remain among the cherished memories of those who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at the Polish National Cemetery in Beausejour, Manitoba, in May 2027. Further details will be shared closer to the date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Raymond’s memory may be made to: Brokenhead Trail Blazers, Box 4, Grp. 305, RR #3, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0
