Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Walter George Fey.

Walter will be deeply missed by his son Wally (Bonnie), daughter Lori (Dan) and granddaughters Skyler (Dustin) & Shay-Lynn (Brayden).

He was predeceased by his wife Mildred (Millie) Fey of 51 years.

Walter will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and dedication to both his family and community. He worked as a Grater Operator for Manitoba Highways, where he took pride in maintaining the province’s roads. Later, he found employment closer to home as a Custodian at Walter Whyte School, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring.

Outside of work, Walter proudly served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Grand Marais Fire Department from 1976 until his retirement from the Fire Service in 2000. He thoroughly enjoyed his years on the department, often sharing stories from his time in the fire service. His passion for firefighting inspired both Wally & Lori to follow in his footsteps by joining their local fire departments.

Walter loved spending time outdoors and could often be found tinkering in his yard, enjoying a cold one. He took pride in caring for his property, keeping his lawn and gardens beautifully maintained. He also enjoyed caring for the deer that visited over the years, he would watch over them and always made sure they were fed, especially during the colder months.

Walter was very proud to have lived his entire life on his family’s farmland, a place he truly called home. His home meant so much to him, and he enjoyed sharing it with others. Anyone who stopped in could count on receiving a tour of the yard and hearing a story or two from over the years.

Walter will be deeply missed by his family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren and through the lasting impact he had on his community of Grand Marais.

May he rest in peace and forever remain in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour, MB.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Betel Home in Selkirk for their care and support they provided to our Dad & Grandpa over the past two years.
