It is with great sadness we share the passing of our mom and grandmother; Wilma Nikodem on July 23, 2026 at Selkirk Hospital. 

Mom was predeceased by her husband Rudy on September 29, 2020.

Left to mourn her passing are her children: Lyla (Bob) Ready, Percy (Carol) Nikodem and Leanne (Terry) Early. Grandchildren; Dustin, Carmen, Jennifer, Brandy (Nick), Candice (Cote), Crystal, Rachelle (Rob), Olivia (Brayden) and Parker; 13 great grandchildren; sister Joan (Gordon) Otto; along with many nieces and nephews..

Mom was born July 6, 1933, at home Sec. 32-5-6E Hanover Municipality. She was the middle child to 2 brothers and 4 sisters. At the age of 6 their family moved from Friedensfeld to Lowland.

At the age of 14 she left the farm to go work in Winnipeg at St. Boniface Hospital in the kitchen. She returned home after a year and met our dad; and in 1950 they began their life together for 70 years until dads passing.

Mom did everything; she drove the tractor on the field, she drove a dozer for Schreyer Construction, she gardened, canned, baked, sewed, crocheted and could cook like no other. Family dinners were feasts and weren’t complete without an amazing dessert.

Mom volunteered at Togs’N’Treasures for over 30 years and spent many years on the Ladies Guild at Grace Lutheran Church. Mom continued her faith through her Wednesday morning bible study group where she treasured the friendships and the cake recipes shared.

Mom always made time to be with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Playing a game of cards, letting them help cook, going for ice cream, to the park or just finding out what was going on in their life. They made her smile, laugh and brought out her silly side.

Mom enjoyed getting ready for their trips to: Florida, Colorado, California, B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Churchill. With travelling also came shopping (we think that’s why she liked travelling). They made new friends everywhere they went and she was always excited to share the new dancing locations her and dad found while away.

In 2020 mom moved to Stony Plains after dad had passed. She enjoyed recreation and new friends she made; however her osteoporosis caused her to be in a wheelchair and a move to East Gate Lodge was necessary for additional care.

The family would like to thank Dr. Van Rensburg and the staff at East Gate Lodge for the care and understanding they provided to mom. We would also like to thank the doctors and staff at Selkirk Hospital Emergency for the compassion they showed towards our mom and our family.

As per Wilma’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Gate Lodge Recreation Department or Grace Lutheran Church.

Service will take place on Wednesday July 29, 2026 at 11:00a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, Manitoba.
