1943 – 2020

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  On June 25, 2020 at the age of 76 Rita left us while sleeping peacefully with Rheal, her husband of 56 years by her side.

Rita will be lovingly remembered by her husband Rheal.  She is the loving and devoted mother of Beatrice (Grant), Alice (Cam), and Lyne (Jonathan “Johnboy”).  The center of Rita’s world were her six grandchildren, Cass, Tiffany, Karlee, Kassee, Bronwyn, and Lyrin.  She was so proud of her five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Alyson and Jase.  She is also survived by siblings, Tess, Norman, Alice, Yvonne and Lillian.  Rita was predeceased by her baby grandson David; parents, Clem and Aurore Coss; and brothers, Eugene and Leon.

Rita’s life was guided by her devout Christian faith and anyone who knew her saw that she was a living example of the Ephesians 4:32 bible verse, “…and be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

First and foremost, Rita was a devoted mother.  She treasured her children, and embraced every moment with them, particularly at campfires and family gatherings. She especially loved her role as Meme to her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Her favorite things in the world were children who were sleeping or eating.  Rita grew up in Powerview Manitoba and recently resided in Winnipeg; but, wherever she lived she made feel like a home, and not just a house.  She had a fun and quirky personality; she always made people around her laugh either with her Elvis dance or funny pokes at Rheal.  She was such a good sport; we could get her to do almost anything once.  Last year Dad even got her on the three-wheeler!

Rita made friends everywhere she went as she loved camping and games such as Bingo and Yahtzee.  She unwillingly had to admit that Rheal finally got her number after years of beating him (and everybody else) at Yahtzee.

She loved to feed her family, loved knitting, and couldn’t get enough Murder She Wrote and game shows.  But most of all she loved her family and lived her strong values of faith, kindness, support, and family dedication.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

It was our privilege to be neighbours of Rita and Rheal for many years in Powerview. Their kindness and friendship was a gift to our family.

Rita cut my hair more than once and we watched from across the street while their kids and grandkids grew up enjoying Rita’s cooking and joyful essence.

Our prayers for Rita’s family and deepest condolences. She left behind many wonderful memories of her life.

“Your mother blessed so many people with her faith and kindness. Praying that you’ll find comfort in your memories of her and in the knowledge that others are missing her, too.”
Aunty was always so kind to me and had this way of making me laugh. She would always say when she saw me “ awe my little Denise”
She will be forever missed. I’m pretty sure Aunty and my Husband George are getting into some mischief.
Sending hugs to uncle Rheal and Family
