Tena Staska

Posted By Sobering Funeral Chapel On May 31, 2019 @ 2:33 pm In Obituaries | 10 Comments

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Ma, Mom, Grandma, Grams, Great-Grams and Great-Great-Grams on May 27, 2019, with her family by her side at the Pine Falls Hospital.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her children, Catherine (Donald), Shirley (David), Dave (Brenda), Helen (Jim), Theresa (Lyle) and Robert; her grandchildren, Jarad, Travis (Michele), Nina, Amanda, Mark (Erika), Shawn (Jessie), Tim (Peggy), Trevor (Carleen), Michelle, Nicholle (Clayton), Mike (Ashley), Laura (Corey), Joe, Chris, Jason (Vanessa) and Erin (Aaron); her great-grandchildren, Kash, Ave, Kayla, Charlee, Mercedes, Novaliah, River, Rylan, Aubrey, Grayson, Damien, Ethan, Jackson, Hunter, Charlie, Ezra and Kiley; and one great-great-grandson RG.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Millie Staska and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles, son-in-law Ajit, great-grandson Trevor Jr. and great-granddaughter Calleigh, as well as all her siblings.

Tena was born April 22, 1924 in Melaval, SK, the youngest of nine children.  Life was hard growing up in the depression years, but they still managed to have fun by the many tales of tricks and pranks with her brother and sisters that she told us about.  She kept that sense of humour and impish grin right up to the very end.  When she was older, she moved to Winnipeg to live with her sister Ann and worked in the sewing factory as an accountant.

She met our Dad at a church social when he bid on the basket she brought.  In those days, the ladies would bring baked goods in a basket and they were numbered so the gentlemen didn’t know who had which basket.  Dad said mom’s looked the best to him and so the Staska Legacy began.  They were married October 13, 1952 and the farm in Ladywood became their home where they raised their children and remained all their lives.

Mom loved gardening, planting trees, her many flowers, all the birds and being very talented, she loved making wood crafts for her family.  She belonged to the Garden Club, the C.W.L. and the 50 club with our Dad.  For many years they enjoyed going to Traveloque with her sister Ann.  After Dad retired they were able to do some travelling to Alaska, Nashville and across the Western Provinces to visit with family.

She was a kind and gentle soul, always making sure that nobody ever left her place hungry, but she was also able to keep us kids in line when needed.  There was none of this “wait until your dad gets home.” She handled it herself.

Her smile could light up a room and she had the most amazing, infectious laugh that we all are going to miss terribly.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 530 Atlantic Ave., Beausejour, MB, with Fr. Rene Chartier officiating.  Interment to follow in the St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hwy 12N.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, The Children’s Wish Foundation or any animal rescue shelter.
