Leave A Condolence

William Scharein

1920 ~ 2012

Peacefully, with his daughters at his side, William Scharein, aged 92 years passed away at the Beausejour Hospital.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Linda (David) Sigurdson and Carol (Gerald) Smith, his grandchildren Darren (Lorrie), Sheralyn (Chris), Kevin (Holly), Derek (Tracy), Rikki and great granddaughter Brooke.

He is also survived by his brother-in-law August (Olga) Wagner and many nephews, nieces and friends.  He was predeceased by his wife Irma (Wagner) after 59 years of marriage, his parents August and Auguste (Jastrau) and his siblings Mary, Gussie, Frank, Annie, Charlotte, Louis and Gus.

Dad’s greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family, whom he cherished, as well as reading and watching sports on T.V.

Mom and Dad enjoyed their life on the farm in Lydiatt and their retirement in Beausejour where Dad now had more time to use his creative talents to make gifts for his children and his grandchildren.  He and Mom were faithful members of Zion Lutheran Church for many years.  Special thanks to Paul Rapinchuk for his many pastoral visits.

Following Mom’s stroke, Dad moved to Stony Plains Terrace where he resided happily for ten years.  In April 2011, due to failing health, Dad moved to East Gate Lodge where he was surrounded by a staff of wonderful, caring people on the Crocus Unit.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Nick Van Rensburg for his care of Dad while at East Gate and to Dr. Garth Campbell who cared for Dad for many years prior to this.

A Celebration of Dad’s life was held on Saturday, September 29 at 1:30pm at Zion Lutheran Church.  Interment followed at the Zion Lutheran Cemetary.

Pallbearers will be Gerald, Derek and Rikki Smith, Dave, Darren and Kevin Sigurdson.  Honorary pallbearer will be Sheralyn Sigurdson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church memorial fund or East Gate Lodge.
