Wilma Geraldine Gunn (nee Thomas) was called home on Tuesday July 12, 2022, with her loving family by her side.  She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba March 15, 1932 to Beatrice and Ruben Thomas.

Wilma leaves behind her daughter Geraldine Nazvesky (Albert), son Tedd Gunn (Janet), granddaughters Catherine Roy (Denis), Malinda Nazvesky, grandson Nicholas Nazvesky (Shannon) and great-grandchildren Nathan and Grace Roy, Ellie and Marlee Nazvesky and grand fur babies Leo and Yuuki.

Wilma also leaves behind sister in-laws Irene and Vera Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.  Wilma was predeceased by her husband Jim of 59 years, her mother and father, brothers Earl, Lorne, Ted, sisters Ann, Mable and Monda.

At a young age, Wilma moved to the small town of Nakina, Ontario where she found work at the train station and met the love of her life.  Wilma was very involved in many different churches throughout the years.  Her family was very important to her and she travelled long and far to visit with them.

Wilma loved gardening, knitting, making her beach babies, Christmas ornaments as well as scrapbooking with ladies.  She enjoyed the great outdoors where she and Jim and their family spent many wonderful hours fishing, picking blueberries and sitting by campfires at Beetleman Bay.

Wilma moved back to Thunder Bay to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.  They all enjoyed many occasions together.

Mom loved and enjoyed all the company she received.  She would help and support anyone at any time.

We would like to thank the Nurses at the TBHSC and the Nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, 4 North for their extraordinary care in keeping Grandma comfortable.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour, MB with viewing half an hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Wilma’s memory be made to the Thunder Bay Humane Society and St. Joseph’s Palliative Care Unit 4 North.

Wilma will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

G.G we love you always

Geraldine, Ted, and family,
We were heartbroken to hear of the passing of your beloved mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother (G.G). Although she was not part of our ‘birth’ family, she will always be known to us and our family as ‘Auntie’.
While we don’t recall exactly when we first met Auntie Wilma and Uncle Jim, it was most likely at St. Jude’s Anglican Church in Grand Marais. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome and invited us to her home down in Jackfish Lake Road for dinner very soon thereafter.
Auntie and Uncle Jim quickly became a member of our family and shared in all of the experiences and celebrations we had as we began our life in Grand Marais. She and Uncle Jim were Godparents to both of our boys, Andrew and Timothy, and spent many, many days looking after them before they were able to start school (and many days after that, too!). She always said that it was Tim, who never wanted to sit still, who kept her in shape better than going to TOPS.
She loved taking the boys for summer and fall walks in the woods behind her home, pulling them behind her in her toboggan in the winter, and sharing her love of the outdoors with them. She never missed a Christmas concert, school play or any birthday celebration when she was home and always asked about them first when we talked on the phone after she moved to Thunder Bay. Andrew was able to visit her on several occasions while passing through Thunder Bay on the way to Newfoundland, and she was always so delighted to see him. Both Andrew and Timothy have wonderful fond memories of Auntie as a special part of our family.
Auntie and Uncle Jim always loved coming over for our family dinners. When Dave’s parents were over Uncle Jim and Kal would chat in the living room by the fire about shared experiences growing up in Northern Ontario while Auntie Wilma and Marilyn would proudly talk about their grandchildren in the kitchen. When Gloria’s parents, John and Pat, were visiting they would often take day trips together while we were all off at school. This extended to a wonderful fall trip that Auntie and Uncle made out to Newfoundland to travel the island with John and Pat that they all talked about with fondness for many years after. While we don’t know if she was ever ‘Screeched In’, Auntie is an honorary Newfoundlander nonetheless.
Andrew and Tim are both out here in Newfoundland with us this summer, Andrew stationed with the Search and Rescue Squadron in Gander and Tim working as a summer intern on Fogo Island, so we are very sorry that none of us will be able to be there with you today. When we heard the news of her passing, we all felt the same sadness press around our hearts. Then, as we talked of our memories of Auntie and the many wonderful, happy moments we had all shared together, that sadness lifted, as if she was there with us again in the room, her laughter helping to lift us up. We hope that as you share the sadness of her loss you also share the strength of the love she gave everyone throughout her life, and be comforted in the moments and memories you have of Auntie that will keep her in your heart forever, as it will with us.
Thinking of you all today,
Love Gloria, Dave, Andrew and Timothy
