Mae Sokalski

March 28, 1935 — March 28, 2017

1935 ~ 2017

Mae Sokalski passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2017 at the age of 82 at East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home, Beausejour.

Mom leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Carol, sisters in-law Frieda, Helen and Millie, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, dear friends and neighbours.  Mae was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Kasmir and all her sisters and brothers Nora, Dorthy, Harry, Harold, Bill and Ernie.

Mom was the daughter of Daniel and Johanna Klapprat.  She was born on a farm outside of Grahamdale and in her youth worked for a few years in the city.  She met Kasmir through family and married in 1958.  Together they took over the family farm outside of Beausejour.  Mom worked very hard on the farm and would drive the combine and all the tractors.

Mom loved gardening and cooking for everyone and made the best blueberry perogies.  Mom provided love and care to dad during his illness and after his passing enjoyed handivan trips, meeting her friends for coffee uptown, old time music and gospel jams.  She could be found playing bingo at the seniors centre and partaking in many social gatherings with her friends and family.

During the last few years of her life, Mom had many people involved in her care and I would like to express my gratitude to the homecare workers, and staff at Stony Plains, Beausejour Hospital and East Gate Lodge.  A special thank you to Dr. Van Rensburg.

A come and go viewing will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E in Beausejour.  Funeral service with viewing will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29 also at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mae’s memory to East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home, Box 1690, Beausejour, Manitoba R0E 0C0.
