February 12, 1930 to January 16, 2011
With deep sadness and wonderful memories, the family of Adeline Swaluk of Beausejour, announce her sudden passing on Sunday, January 16, 2011.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Nick of 63 years, also sisters Mary Kowalchuk, Helen Bretchka, Kathy Glowacki, Betty Regula (Stanley), brother Lawrence Bialek (Joan), sisters in-law Victoria Bialek, Rosalia Bialek, Violet Bialek and Rita Bialek. She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends and neighbours.
Adeline was predeceased by her parents Julian and Carrie Bialek, brothers Edward, John, Bob and Casey, and brothers-in-law Steve Kowalchuk, Victor Bretchka and Lawrence Glowacki.
Adeline was born in Hazelglen, the third of ten children. Growing up in a loving close-knit family she treasured these relationships and friendships throughout her life.
In 1947, Adeline married Nick Swaluk and worked by his side on their farm. Adeline loved everything about farming; the busy life; the animals that all had special names and the caring for her flowers and plants. She also cared for many nieces and nephews. When other children went to camp, Nick’s family went to the farm in Cloverleaf where Auntie Adeline taught them to milk cows, pick the eggs up, fetch the cows and more.
Adeline also worked at local Beausejour businesses and at the Beausejour Hospital.
When Adeline and Nick retired from the farm they moved into Beausejour. They were very involved with the Beau-head Seniors Centre and were active members of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. They enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and traveling across the United States with Edward and Vicky Bialek and other friends and family.
Adeline always kept busy. She enjoyed many hobbies including playing cards, quilting, cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and needlework. Her talents were always shared through donations of knitting to the hospital auxiliary, contributions to raffles and gifts to friends and family. She loved to grow things and took great pride in her flowers. She was well known for her amazing geraniums that she grew every summer. She loved garage sales – both planning them and going to them. She also enjoyed a good casino adventure.
Adeline will be remembered for her role as a hostess for family gathering. Friends and family were always welcomed in her home and treated to homemade goodies and warm hospitality. She thrived on the energy of company. Her kindness and caring has touched many lives and she will be missed dearly.
Adeline and Nick recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Their support for each other through the challenges of life and health is a testament to their love and commitment to each other.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 21 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with Rev. Fr. Isadore Dziadyk officiating. Interment to follow Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Friends may view at the chapel prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the homecare workers for their long term care and support and also the officers of the Beausejour RCMP detachment for their assistance and compassion. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association may be made in Adeline’s memory.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.SoberingFuneralChapel.com.
