Alan Larry Borkowsky

May 21, 1956 — November 15, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alan on November 15, 2025.

Alan is survived by his mother, Ethel, his loving wife Susan, and his children Julianna, Danny, Katrina (Grant), Jonathan (Destiny), Nicholas (Janelle) and light of his life granddaughter, Marin. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Brian (Lois) & family, lifelong friend, Garry Schwartz and many cherished brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and friends. He was predeceased by his father Emanual, his first wife Corri, and his in-laws Murray and Joyce Brooks, and Ruth and Alf Sander.

Born on May 21, 1956, in Beausejour, Manitoba, Alan grew up a country boy through and through. Most of his youth was spent on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work, community, and tradition. It was on that land that he cultivated not only crops, but also a bond with his father, one that shaped his entire life.

Alan’s involvement with Luther League introduced him to a group of lifelong friends, and ultimately to the love of his life, Corri Brooks. They married in 1983 and together they built a home right next to his parents on the original homestead and welcomed three children; Julianna, Danny and Katrina. Alan treasured being part of the Brooks-Henderson family. Alan learned the power of his community through the passing of Corri in 1992.

Relying on his deep faith, Alan found comfort in the people around him. In time, life brought him a second great love. He fell in love with Susan, and they married in 1994. Their blended family grew once more with the arrival of two more children; Jonathan and Nicholas. Together, Susan and Alan built a life full of laughter, faith, and partnership, a marriage marked by loyalty, and tenderness. They were blessed to be able to travel; experiencing many different cultures and beautiful places with their family. Alan loved to travel to warm places in the winter, and spent countless summers at Luther Village and a few at Great Woods as well.

Alan’s working years spanned farming, working at Pay & Save, Motor Coach, Hydro, to name a few, and later Envirotech and New Standard. But it was the farm that remained true to his heart.

Even in retirement and after moving into Beausejour, he continued to farm his little piece of property, planting as many tomato plants as space would allow. Alan was forever planting and moving seeds, nurturing seedlings, and chasing the perfect patch of sunlight.

Alan loved his community deeply and could make a friend anywhere he went. He had a remarkable gift for friendship as he was easy to approach and always welcomed people into his home. Garry Schwartz, his Mon Frere-se held a very important role in his life and has been there every step of the way with him for more than 45 years. Alan was kind, charismatic, goofy, and instantly loved by all who met him. He had a green thumb, a soft spot for animals, an enthusiasm for beekeeping and birds, a deep interest in history, geography and an endless collection of T-shirts. He adored costumes, whether it meant dressing as an elf at Christmas or donning a dress for girls’ night. And he was always singing in the kitchen, at gatherings, even at funerals. If there was a moment, Alan had a song for it.

Alan lived with many health conditions which led to navigating the challenges of pride, independence, and illness. He loved fiercely, felt loss deeply, and was brave enough to love again. Though grief touched his life more than once, he never let it dim his spirit. He chose joy, laughter, and connection and he shared those gifts freely with others.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. True that!

A Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held on Thursday, November 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.
