It is with heavy hearts that we announce that shortly after the stroke of midnight on March 4, 2026, Arthur (Art) Gaffray “Grandpa”, snuck away peacefully and comfortably surrounded by his loved ones.
Art is survived by the love of his life of 59 years, Andrea, son Stephen (Carrie), and sister Ruth, daughter in-law Janice, grandchildren Lee, Dallas (Bryan), Laci (Travis), Easton (Keirra), Tyler (Stefani), Megan, Julie and Kaitlyn, great grandchildren Wrenley, Oliver and Hudson and many nieces, nephews and friends like family in Canada, England and USA.
Art was predeceased by his infant daughter Grace, son Edward, daughter in-law Rosanne as well as parents Etienne and Isobel Gaffray and brothers Ted, Don, Lawrie and Jackie.
Art was born in Winnipeg but spent all his life in Silver Falls. He obtained his pilots license in his early 20s and later on in his mid 50s obtaining his helicopter license. In 1960 Art and his brother Don started the air service business.
Art was a pioneer and a very intriguing innovator in aviation, wild rice harvesting and processing and every aspect in between. Art was a very humble capable man with the will and stamina to attempt and accomplish just about anything.
In his later years he “consulted” his sons on their venture into the air service industry while keeping busy around the property with earth moving projects, engineering a new piece of equipment, fixing what he saw fit or being there to lend a hand to the guys.
Andrea was Art’s love of his life. They endured a lot together and have made a life possible for all of us, setting a great example for the future generations. He loved and adored his grandchildren-they could do no wrong. Art loved to travel with Andrea. They travelled to many places in Europe, South America, the Caribbean, Canada and the USA.
Thank you to the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home and Tyndall Building, Ward 4 in Selkirk for the care and compassion shown to Art.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Great Falls Hall on April 25, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. The family encourages all to come and share their stories with one another in honor of Art.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthur’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
