Bernhard passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2025, due to complications as a result of a fall at home. He is predeceased by his loved wife, Bernice.
He leaves to mourn his passing his son Les (Lori), their son Michael; and his daugher Laura (Paul) and their son Ben.
Bernhard was born in Whitemouth in eastern Manitoba where he worked on the family farm and the DNR. In his twenties, he trained as a diesel mechanic, after which he moved to Winnipeg. He spent most of his working life employed by Kleysen Transport. After retirement he moved from Winnipeg to Rainy River, Ontario, where he enjoyed life on the riverside, fishing and boating.
In 2005 Bernhard and Bernice moved to Pinawa, Manitoba, close to the town of Seven Sisters where they originally met. They were active in the church and local community until Bernice’s passing in 2014. Bernard moved to the Ironwood retirement community shortly thereafter, where he remained until his passing. He enjoyed the social life at the Ironwood, participating in activities there and in town. Wildlife was a particular love of his, viewing birds, deer, and bear from his apartment window.
The family would like to thank the Ironwood and Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority for their care over the years. A special thank you to Dr. Selena Papetti, whose dedicated attention to Bernhard’s health undoubtedly extended his enjoyment of life for many years.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pinawa Lutheran Church, 25 Massey Avenue, Pinawa, MB. Interment will follow in the St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery, River Hills, MB.
