Caroline (Carol) Witoski (nee Sliva)

Peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 our mother, Caroline (Carol) Witoski passed away after a sudden onset illness.

She is survived by her children Joyce Gmiterek, Gail Witoski, Lynda (Glen) Kaatz, and Len Witoski. She was Granny to grandchildren Jordan (Shauna) Gmiterek, Keri (Paul) Bonekamp, Brady (Lindsay) Gmiterek, Kiley Gmiterek (fiancé Ryan), Rhianon (Adam) Rothenberger, Joel (Colleen) Baker, Samantha Kaatz (Chris), Amanda (Mike) Rodrigues, Steven (Jade) Kaatz, Jessica Witoski and Alex Witoski. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren who will remember her for the little bags of jellybeans.

Predeceased by her husband Stan Witoski, parents John and Anna Sliva, in-laws Frank and Katherine Witoski, son-in-law Richard Gmiterek, siblings Frank, Mike, Joe, Mary, Edward, Frances, Wally and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Mom was born in Tyndall, the youngest in a large family. She completed Grade 10 and headed off to Winnipeg. Her first job was at Man with an Ax clothing store, living in rooming houses with various roommates. She met our Dad at a dance at Teddies Place in Tyndall. They married in Garson on October 10, 1953 residing in North Kildonan before moving to Beausejour in 1963. They were blessed with four children. Mom was a dedicated homemaker who excelled at cooking, sewing, canning and keeping a welcoming home.

Mom was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in the Beausejour area for over 35 years. She enjoyed giving back to her community in this way. In her 70’s she became quite active, participating in Tai Chi, line dancing (often dancing in her kitchen) and the senior choir. You would often see her out walking with her distinctive caps.

Music was always very important to our mom, always singing, humming or whistling. She sang to and with all of us growing up and treasured teaching her grandchildren new songs. We will all miss our Christmas carol singalongs. Dad always enjoyed listening to her. Our parents had many adventures during their retirement years. Travelling, dancing at the Old Time Dances and fishing for that master angler. They truly enjoyed their time at their cottage at Nutimik Lake.

Mom was an avid reader (thank goodness for large print books!), gardening and participating at the Friendly Circle at Stony Plains. She made many new friends and our family is very grateful for the friendships made over the years particularly at Bourgoine Station where she lived independently.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 530 Atlantic Avenue, Beauejour.

Her family would like to thank Dr. N. Jansen Van Rensburg, Dr. R. Nepomuceno and staff at the Beausejour Hospital for the compassionate care of our mother. Special thanks to her prayer angels (you know who you are) and to Fr. Rajan Thomas for his spiritual care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for Mass Intentions, the Beausejour Hospital or St. Mary Roman Catholic Church.
