Unexpectedly, at Betel Home, Cora went to join her one love, Spotty, on Friday September 12th, 2025, just a few days short of her 92nd birthday.
She will be forever remembered by her children Alice and Allan Young, Sandy and Les Singbeil and her precious grandchildren; Kait and partner Rylan and Travis and fiancée Kendra.
Cora is survived by her sisters-in-law Nettie Scholz and Charlotte Wall and brothers-in-law Art and Gordy Ott. She is remembered lovingly by her many nieces and nephews.
Cora was born in Beausejour on September 15, 1933, to Martin and Mary Scholz. She grew up alongside her siblings, Martin, Margaret, Mae, Norman, Helen, Rose, Gordon and Isabel, on the family farm in Golden Bay. As a young girl, she loved to wait for the fair-haired young man who picked up the cream. That’s how the love story with Spotty began.
As a young adult, Cora moved to Winnipeg, but the pull of a small town brought her back. Spotty and Cora were married on June 16th, 1956, and began their lives in Beausejour. She worked at Beausejour Drugs and loved helping the folks that came in. Their family grew with the birth of Alice and Sandy. As a family, they loved to travel, something that Cora and Spotty continued to do until Spotty’s passing.
Cora believed in giving back to her community and worked tirelessly with many organizations. These included both the Beausejour and Lac du Bonnet Health auxiliaries, Lions and Lionesses. She also was active in both the local Food Banks and Christmas Hamper committees.
Grace Lutheran Church was an important part of Cora’s life. She taught Sunday School for many years and was an active member of the LWML where she found faith and friendship with her fellow members.
Cora loved working outside, and it was reflected in her beautiful flowers and gardens. She spoiled everyone with her amazing cakes and mounds of cookies. If she wasn’t baking, she could be seen with a crotchet hook in her hand making yet another beautiful afghan or leaning over one of the hundreds of jig-saw puzzles she loved to do.
Cora loved to chat on the phone, reaching out to her friends and family. The loneliness of missing her one true love, pushing through health setbacks and missing her home has made this past year extremely difficult. She persisted through all of these setbacks with grace and strength.
The family would like to thank the staff at Betel Home, and all her other caregivers for their compassion.
The funeral will be held on Friday, September 19th at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering’s Funeral Chapel in Beausejour.
Cora and Spotty will be interred together at the Beausejour Town Cemetery following her service. A lunch will follow at the Garson Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Beausejour.
