“And no resident will say, “I am sick” Isaiah 33:24

With heavy hearts we announce that after a brief illness, Dale Allen Retallack passed away on April 12, 2023;  he was 78 years of age.  The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Pinawa Hospital and The Health Sciences Centre for their care and kindness in his final weeks.

Dale was born and raised in the small towns of Auburn and Nevada City in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California.  It was there that a deep appreciation for the outdoors took root, and Dale, along with his brothers, became an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman.  After graduating from Nevada Union High School, Dale was drafted into the US Army and served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam.

Upon returning to California, Dale went to work as a lineman for PG&E.  Not long after, he took his young family back to the mountain town he loved and began work with Robinson Timber Enterprises in Nevada City, California as a log truck driver.

In 1981 Dale met the love of his life, and he and Debbie (Wingate) Retallack enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 39 years.  In 1990, the couple moved to Lac du Bonnet, MB where together they fulfilled Dale’s lifelong dream of becoming a hunting and fishing guide while managing a fly-in lodge.  Never one to rest long, Dale also continued to work in the trucking industry including the famous “Ice Roads” of Northern Manitoba.

In his later years, and with his wife by his side, Dale enjoyed the peace and tranquility of his home by the river, tending his tomato plants and feeding and watching the birds he affectionally called “his kids”.

His greatest love, though, was learning about and serving Jehovah God.  As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he loved sharing his love of the Bible, and the hope it gives, with others.

Dale is survived by his loving wife Debbie, son Shawn, daughter Meara (Patrick) and his grandchildren, Ty, Samantha, and Fletcher, as well as his brothers, Everett and Larry (Cindy), his brother-in-law, Glen (Rita) along with his nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Lenora “Nora” Retallack and his father, Calvin Neal Retallack.

Dale would say he lived a simple life.  We would respectfully add that it was a cherished life born of an incredible work ethic, a loud, booming voice that could fill a room with laughter, and a deep, abiding commitment to his wife and his faith and his family.  He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada, 13893 Highway 7, Georgetown, ON L7G 4S4, or to the charity of one’s choice.  A memorial of his life will be held at a later date.
