Danny Steffes

September 19, 1959 — December 7, 2022

September 19, 1959 ~ December 7, 2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce, that on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Daniel Leonard Steffes passed away at the age of 63, at the St. Boniface Hospital.

He was a good husband, dad, grandpa (Papa), brother-in-law, Uncle and Friend. He leaves to mourn his wife Kathy; his children Brett (Christina) and their children Liam and Lucas, Evan (MacKenzie) and their children Brody and Olivia, and William (Samantha) and their children Grayson and Freya.  He will be missed by his mother-in-law (mom) Olga Relf, as well as his family in Arizona.

Danny was predeceased by his father and mother, Lawrence and Mary Steffes and his father-in-law William Relf.

Danny was born on September 19, 1959 in Beausejour and raised on the family farm in Cromwell, and remained there in the home that we built until his death.  After leaving school, he worked for many different electrical companies in Winnipeg and Beausejour, and even had his own business for a short time.  Danny loved working on the farm with his dad and eventually went on to making it his full-time job. He especially enjoyed when his boys joined him helping with the chickens and cows, making hay and mending fences.  He dreamed about when they could join him, but when that dream was taken away, he decided to take on the position of Head of Maintenance at Eastgate Personal Care Home and Stoney Plains in Beausejour, where he was truly respected and loved by everyone he worked with.  He was looking forward to retirement. Danny loved spending time in his second home in Arizona and fishing on Canyon Lake AND “LAUGHING ALL THE TIME”!!! We were fortunate enough to have spent the last three weeks there; even shingling the roof while he was there. When arriving home, he entered the hospital.

Kathy was the “love of his life” and he worshiped the ground she walked on. He loved to spend time with his all 3 of his sons; helping them with anything they needed to be done, offering his “advice” and enjoying a drink or two. But his 6 grandchildren brought him his biggest JOY in his life. We are all very sad that he will not be here to see them grow, but we will keep his memory alive in their hearts forever.

If we couldn’t find Danny at home, he was usually in the back “40” cutting wood or on his lawnmower. Danny’s garden was his passion. This passion was passed down to him from his parents and their love of gardening. He spent hours there from Spring to Fall, nurturing the seeds he planted to preserve it for winter and share his harvest with many.

A celebration of Danny’s life will be held at Sobering Funeral chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beauesjour, MB, on Monday, December 12 at 11:00 a.m. There will be no after service lunch, as his family will be having a private interment and gathering later.

We, his family, would like to thank the amazing nurses, team of cardiologists and doctors, along with the support staff at the ACCU at the St. Boniface Hospital that worked so hard to keep Danny with us. Also, the wonderful family and friends that reached out with their love and prayers during this time.

In lieu of flowers, if anyone so desires, feel free to make a donation in Danny’s honour to the Brokenhead River Community Foundation, as he loved the community he lived in his entire life.
