It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Dave TWIST who passed away at his home in Ste. Rita on July 14, 2026 at the age of 78.
Dave is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Mary TWIST of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan and his sister, Shirley and brother-in-law Gary HOOTZ of Abbotsford, BC.
Dave will lovingly be remembered by his wife of almost 50 years, Jean. Dave is survived by his sons Mathew, Rick (Krista), and Stephen (Tami) and seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Dave also leaves behind his sisters Barb (Brad) USHER and Linda (Dave) PARISH, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dave was born in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan and graduated from Peacock Technical High School. Throughout his life Dave loved sports and remained active as a player, coach, referee, or fan. As a youth, Dave played football, basketball and baseball. Later in life, Dave became a football coach and assisted in coaching the Midget South Hill Roughriders of the Moose Jaw Elk's Minor Football League to a City Championship. Dave also coached and played in the men's basketball league and played senior men's softball in Moose Jaw and Winnipeg. Eventually Dave turned to refereeing both football and basketball.
When a job opportunity called him to Winnipeg, he and Jean resettled in Manitoba, finally making Ste. Rita their home.
The one constant sport that Dave loved and played throughout his life was billiards. His passion for billiards began at an early age in Moose Jaw, Sask. and continued to be a part of his new life in Toronto Ont. Returning to his hometown, Moose Jaw, he eventually opened a billiard hall called His and Hers Billiards. His goal was simple, make billiards a family event that all could enjoy!
Throughout his life it was through billiards that David met all sorts of people and made several good friends. Dave was a well-known captain and active participant in the Aactive Pool League in Manitoba, notably leading the "Fire Stix" team out of the Howland Hotel in Beausejour. He was widely recognized within the local pool community for organizing teams, participating in regional tournaments, and winning championships
As per Dave's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
The family of Dave TWIST, would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the members of the Aactive Pool League for the friendship and fellowship they extended to Dave. Dave looked forward to every game! We would also like to extend our appreciation to Cpl. BUTT and CST. BORGES of the Lac du Bonnet RCMP and all the other first responders who attended for the professionalism and compassion they provided Jean and the family. Finally, we would like to thank Libby and her staff for the incredible care and compassion they provided, they truly provided comfort and invaluable guidance through this stressful time.
