July 21, 1934 — December 21, 2025

Douglas Joseph Blais

On December 21, 2025, in Pinawa, Manitoba, Doug passed away peacefully with daughters at his side after a short battle with cancer. Doug was born on July 21, 1934 in Sudbury, Ontario and was the oldest of 3 children. He is survived by his children Carol Fisher (Gary), Dan Blais (Hollie), Theresa (Larry) Nielsen, Barb Blais, Susan (Rick) Backer, and Penny Blais; and daughter-in-law Janette (David). He was predeceased by wife Patricia of 65 years, and son David, his first grandchild, Joe Blais and his son-in-law, Terry Fisher.

Doug was a loving husband and the father of 7 children, 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Doug was very proud of his family and welcomed any opportunity to spend time with them, including those who didn’t live in Pinawa. He was lucky to have two daughters and their families live in Pinawa whom were a big part of his life. Doug was very social. He enjoyed curling and playing hockey in his younger years, and golf and cards, (bridge in particular) in retirement. He was an avid sports fan and critic, and really loved his Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers. He was known to tell a joke or two (or maybe more), never missing an opportunity to make someone smile.

As a young man, Doug joined the military with postings in Ottawa, Churchill, Winnipeg, Base Borden and CFB Trenton before retiring and moving to Pinawa to work at AECL. He was a hard worker, at some points having three jobs. He was a very active Lions member and was a big part of the Roman Catholic Church. He welcomed retirement and spending winters in Texas, enjoying life. A sincere thank you to the staff at Pinawa Hospital. Your special care of Doug was very much appreciated by the entire family.

A celebration of life will be held in Ontario in the summer of 2026.
