Douglas Glenn Mcdermot

June 29, 1951 — November 12, 2023

June 29, 1951 ~ November 12, 2023

On November 12, 2023, Doug, with love and peace in his heart and in ours, wrapped in the warmth of a blanket that his mom made, went to be with his heavenly family.

Doug was born on June 29, 1951 to Glenn and Gladywn (Orris), while the family was living in Great Falls, MB.  They soon moved to Grassie Blvd. in Winnipeg but in 1967, Lag. went through their living room and the family moved back to the McDermot homestead in Hazelridge, MB.  While attending SCI, Doug met his soon to be wife, Joanne Ballegeer.  They dated for 3 years and on November 6, 1971 they were married and just recently celebrated their 52nd Anniversary.  Doug was a jack of all trades but decided that he needed more, so in 1980 he went back to school got his grade 12 and went on to study Electrical Drafting.  Doug finished his working career by becoming the owner/operator of Beausejour Sheet Metal with his devoted Joanne at his side.  In May of 1974 Doug welcomed his son Glenn and in February of 1975 he welcomed his daughter Faye.  His joys.

His little family moved many times but in 2019 Doug and Joanne bought their retirement home along the Brokenhead River right across from the golf course.  But life threw us a curveball in November 2020 by Doug having a massive heart attack and we could no longer stay there, so we were on the move again, coming back to Beausejour.  Glenn bought our home there, so we can still enjoy many good times.

Doug loved fishing, hunting (in his younger days), Nascar, his computers and of course golf.  Doug and Henry started careers together at Royaleen Feeders in Dugald and finished their careers with Beausejour Sheet Metal.  Retirement had them enjoying many golf games together.

Doug is survived by his wife Joanne; son Glenn (Friend); daughter Faye (Graham); his grandchildren Brianna, Dylan (Monessa), Parker and Isabella and his great grandchildren Nolan and Liam; his sisters Karen (Alan), Rhonda (Rob) and Colleen (Joe) and sister-in-law Judy (Terry) and by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Doug will always be remembered by his “favourite” mother-in-law Audrey, sisters and brothers-in-law Marilyn (Henry), David (Sharon), Richard (Shirley), Debbie (Ken), Kathy and Jim, and special friends Jim and Crystal.

Doug was predeceased by his parents Glenn and Gladywn; grandparents John Carter and Erma McD; Hartley and Mabel Orris; his father-in-law Lorne; his big brother Lorne, as well as brother-in-law Alan.

As per Doug’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be a private service.

We, the family, wish to thank the awesome staff at the Beausejour Hospital, the many EMS personnel that came to our home, his care giver Jennifer, our wonderful Dr. N. Van Rensberg, and to the staff at Sobering Funeral Chapel.

Donation may be made to the Beausejour TV Fund.

Be happy my love and have fun playing golf.
