Edwin Behnke

Edwin Behnke, 93, passed away peacefully at the Rest Haven Care Home on April 11, 2024.

Edwin was born in Gronde Lublin, Poland on June 8, 1930 to Ervin and Lucie Behnke. He immigrated with his parents to Manitoba in 1951.  His sweetheart Adelheid Buhre followed him to Canada and they were married on February 13, 1954.  They lived near Whitemouth where he was the town barber until they purchased a farm.   They farmed together until 1980 when they retired. He was actively involved in the Whiteshell Baptist Church as treasurer, singing in the choir and helping with many building projects. Dad will be remembered for his steadfast faith and the twinkle in his eye.

Edwin was predeceased by his parents Ervin & Lucie, his wife Adelheid (2016), his brother Bruno and sister-in-law Marie-Louise, a brother in infancy, and his son Frank (2022).

Edwin is survived by his daughter in-in-law Cindy Behnke her family Nathan (Anne-Marie), Annika, Blake, Nataya; Matthew (Tanin), Blair, Zaiden, Bretton; Luke (Tanis), Jordan, Matia, Alexia, Nico; his son Ralph (Edith), Cameron, Natalie; his daughter Doris (John), Cody (Mandy), Jane, Emma; Dylan (Sydney), Boden, Jack; Dalton (Janaye); Amelia (Anthony), Chloe, Hailey; his sister Helga (Al) Bonikowsky; and a niece and nephews.

A come and go viewing will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Nutimik.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Rest Haven Care Home for their love and support in his final years.
