Elaine Susan Hodgson

After a long and courageous battle, Elaine Susan Hodgson nee Biggar went peacefully to her heavenly home in the wee hours of Tuesday, September 22, 2026, surrounded by love and family.

Elaine leaves behind the love of her life, Donald Hodgson of Beausejour, and their four children: Tanya (son Rowen) Beaule, Tasha Hodgson (Daniel Szot), Tara, and Scott (Hannah) Hodgson. Elaine dearly loved her grandson Rowen and was looking forward with great anticipation to the arrival of her two newest grandchildren, who Scott and Hannah are welcoming to the world in the coming weeks.

Together, Elaine and Don celebrated 47 years of marriage on August 11, 2026. They met as teenagers and spent their entire adult lives side-by-side. They were each other’s first love, only spouse, and lifelong partners. A rare and beautiful love story that lasted a lifetime.

Elaine was a lifelong helper who provided comfort and care in her workplace and also a safe and welcoming harbor for anyone needing love and support in her personal life. In her memory, we will carry these legacy gifts forward.

What we also came to discover, these past six years, was the extent of Elaine’s bravery and determination as she battled a rare liver condition with a warrior spirit. She overcame countless seemingly impossible battles throughout her long journey and managed to laugh and love until the very end.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Dolores Biggar; in-laws George and Mildred Hodgson; brother Murray Biggar; Don’s twin brother Gerald Hodgson; brothers-in-law Robert Griffin, Ervin Enns, and Garry Kerstirke; and nieces and nephews Michael Griffin, Amanda Hodgson, and Ethan Piper.

Elaine was born in Emerson, Manitoba, on June 29, 1962, as the youngest of five children. She is survived by a large extended family including: sisters Joanne (Ken) Rodeck; Barbara (Reg) Giesbrecht; and Marilyn (Bruce) Ducharme as well as Don’s sisters: Judy Enns; Maxine (Harvey) Friesen; Leslie (Russell) Kerstirke-Hooey; Barb (Larry) Klassen; and sister-in-law Bonnie Hodgson. Elaine is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved deeply.

Elaine’s family extends their thanks to the many specialists who treated her over the last several years, including but not limited to the Hepatology and Nephrology teams at the Health Sciences Centre in Manitoba and the Liver Transplant Clinic at Toronto General Hospital. Special thanks in particular are extended to Liver Recipient Coordinators Lori Giesbrecht and Carly Roper, Dr. Susan Cuvelier, and Dr. David Peretz.

A private graveside service and internment will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 2, 2026, at St. Mary’s and St. Albans Anglican Church near Kaleida, Manitoba. Light refreshments will be provided at the Manitou Opera House following the service, at which time guests will be invited to share memories of Elaine together.
