Elisabeth (Betty) Kintop (nee Rempel)

May 25, 1943 — Oct 23, 2026

Betty passed away peacefully at East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home in Beausejour, Manitoba on October 23, 2026.

She was born at home in Steinbach, Manitoba, the third of four siblings. She came from a Mennonite background, attended Southwood School and worked for Mayers (now known as Caraustar Industries). She married Walter Kintop on September 23,1961 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Steinbach.

In 1971 Walter and Betty began operating a dairy farm and continued for many years. Alongside their dairy operation, they also farmed grain, raised beef cattle and lovingly raised their five children. Despite a busy farm and family life, Betty always had time for coffee every morning with her best friend Edie Semrock as well as many other family and friends. The kitchen table was always full!

Betty always found the time to participate in the St. John’s Lutheran Church congregation in Greenwald. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was part of the Evangelical Lutheran Women’s group.

Betty and Walter liked to take road trips, often travelling down to Grand Forks for Black Friday sales and a VIP stay at the East Grand Inn. Among many other trips they also travelled to Ontario and Prince Edward Island with Betty’s aunts tagging along.

She had a great love for children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always happy to welcome more into the family.

As dementia slowly robbed her of her independence, Betty never lost her desire to make people smile. Requesting a beer for breakfast was her easy way of bringing a smile to your face.

Betty gave you the freedom to be yourself, to laugh at her jokes and just be in the moment. Nothing ever got her down and she always knew just what to say to bring a smile to your face, no matter how silly she had to be. You always left her presence with a smile on your face and a little more warmth in your heart.

Betty is survived by her daughter Christel, sons Doug (Cathy), Colin (Tammy), Tim (Angie) and Matthew (Mandy). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, Jonathon (Kelly), Jen (Chris), Curtis (Sarah), Brandon (Maggie), Trent, Brooke (Zach), Amanda (Drake), Waylon, Noah, Amy, Faith, Hayley, Madison, Chloe, Paisley and Presley. There are nine great-grandchildren, Tayvian, Kendra, Karly, Klaire, Brynlee, Emerson, Ethan, Daxtyn and Bentley. She is also survived by her sister Anita (Tom) Perry, sister-in-law Linda Beck and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter, parents David and Agatha Rempel; her father and mother-in-law Fred and Marie Kintop, brothers Abe and Jake Rempel, sisters-in-law Jeannette Rempel, Hilda Patzer, Natalie Schnellert, Alma Kintop, Rosie Kintop, Elsie Kintop, brothers-in-law William Kintop, Daniel Kintop, Emanuel Kintop, Ronald Kintop, Leonard Patzer, Roy Schnellert, and Ervin Beck. Her two nieces, Jacqueline Laliberte (Rempel) and Lisa Zaretski (Beck) and nephew David Beck.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at East Gate Lodge for the care, kindness and compassion shown towards Betty. It gave us great peace of mind to know how well she was being cared for and we will be forever grateful for the staff that went out of their way to share with us a fun interaction that they had with her, a concern or an idea on how to make things better for her. It felt safe having her in your care.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thalberg on Saturday, October 31,2026 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior. Lunch will follow the service. Interment will take place after the lunch at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
