Elizabeth (Betty) Bodner

February 29, 1932 — September 7, 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Bodner at her residence, Kildonan House in Winnipeg on September 7, 2025, at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband William, parents John and Albina Gmitroski, in-laws Michael and Frances Bodner, sister Nina Regula, brothers Robert and John Gmitroski, brothers-in-law Tom Regula, Michael Bodner, and Frank Oberick and sisters-in-law Millie Gmitroski, Rose Gmitroski, Olga Oberick and Teresa Bodner.

Elizabeth leaves to mourn her passing, brother Tony (Audrey), daughter Linda (Larry) sons Randal (Carol), Gary (Teresa), beloved grandchildren David (Kerri), Jeffrey (Julie), Kevin (Mardi), Adam (Jocelyn), and Amanda. Cherished great grandchildren, Rorie, Addison, Isla, Rowan, Amelia and Henry, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.

Elizabeth started her life on the Gmitroski family farm in the Sebright District near Beausejour. After completing her education, first in the Sebright one room school, high school in Tyndall and then Normal School, Elizabeth met her goal of becoming a teacher. And of course it was during summer break, at one of those famous barn dances that we heard so much about growing up, she met William. After marrying in 1952, they settled on their farm in Garson. She shared the passion of farming and country life with William.

Growing flower and vegetable gardens gave her great joy. Her knowledge of all plants and flowers were encyclopedic. If there was a gardening spinoff of Jeopardy, Elizabeth would have been in the winner’s circle. She was an avid reader, nature lover, patient bird watcher, devoted dog parent and lifelong learner. She took up oil painting later in life and excelled in bringing landscapes to life. Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the management, staff and residents of Kildonan House for the kindness, support and care shown to our mother.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, David Pleskach, Jeffery Pleskach, Kevin Pleskach, Adam Pleskach, Amanda Bodner, and nephew Brian Bodner.

The funeral will be a private ceremony, remembering Elizabeth in the presence of close family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
