Ernest Theodor Mandziak

Sep 24, 1936 — Jun 25, 2026

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Ernest Theodor Mandziak, who died on June 25, 2026, at the age of 89 years. Ernest will be sorely missed by his wife of 61 years, Evangeline and his two daughters, Lisa and Erika. Ernest was predeceased by his eldest brother, Eugene (Maria) Mandziak. He will be sadly missed by his remaining siblings, David (Caroline) Mandziak, Elvin (Anna) Mandziak, and Iris (Abel) Kogiak as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was born in Hubbard, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm alongside his four siblings. He loved the countryside of rural Saskatchewan and relished in playing baseball in the summer leagues as a teenager. In his early adult years, Ernest joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1957 and completed basic training in Quebec. He spent five years with the RCAF as a ground communications technician and was honourably discharged in October of 1962.

After leaving RCAF, he worked extensively in the aerospace industry and was a payload specialist with Bristol Aerospace working in the Black Brandt rocket program in Churchill, Manitoba through the 1960's and early 1970's.

Ernest switched careers in the 1980's, returning to rural life and spending his time farming on his land near Lockport, Manitoba. He also became a real estate professional working throughout the Interlake region.

Ernest loved spending time with family raising two daughters and during his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, He was an avid sports fan, and he rarely missed a Canadian football game, especially to cheer for his favourite team, the Saskatchewan Rough Riders or enjoy a good curling match.

In his retirement years, Ernest and Evangeline travelled extensively in their RV to escape the cold winters spending time in Arizona, Texas, Mexico and Osoyoos, B.C in their later years. Over the past few years, he and his wife were regular players of cribbage at the Selkirk Legion and at the Tyndall Community Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ernest, can be made to Selkirk Soup Kitchen or the Siloam Mission.
