It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evelyn Bulmer on June 23rd, 2026. She died surrounded by her loving children Elizabeth, Dianne (Peter), Allyson (Patrick), Kathy (Brad), Carol (Dwayne) and son Geoff, as well as her nephew Adrian Farmer and good friend Susan Lazaruk (Gene). She was predeceased by her husband John (in May) and her grandson Jason (in 2011). She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn Ruth Randall was born in Winnipeg in 1931 to parents Fred and Alice Randall (nee Hebert). Not long after, Alice was hospitalized with tuberculosis. For most of the first five years of her life, Mom was raised by her grandmother Sarah in Winnipeg. Her older brother Ken lived with Alice’s family in Elie. One family spoke English and the other French. When Alice recovered, the family reunited, eventually moving to Pine Falls.
In 1948, a handsome young man with a charming English accent came to town. Evelyn and John met at a snowball fight and were immediately smitten with each other. They married in 1949 and remained steadfastly devoted to each other for over 76 years.
Evelyn was an avid reader, ruthless card player, prolific home cook and a reluctant gardener. She was also very active in the local community, looking out for others who might need company, an invite for dinner, a bit of baking or a ride to a doctor’s appointment. She provided her time to several organizations including the Anglican Church, the annual Robbie Burns Dance, the hospital auxiliary and the 4H club, where she taught sewing for 15 years. As band secretary, she joined John, Carol and Geoff at many Stirling Pipe Band events. During her later years, she was a fixture at the Pine Falls Canasta Club.
Together with John, she had a strong sense of obligation to family. She was feisty and resilient, taking adversity in stride and always doing what needed to be done. After her mother was hospitalized with multiple sclerosis in 1954, Evelyn shared their home with her father until his death in 1982. Over the years, many others lived with them as well. This was not always easy, but they made it work and the family bond held. Throughout these busy times she and John maintained a very active social life with many friendships and fond memories of parties, food, music, piano playing, singing, dancing and laughter. They loved cocktail hour, dining in or out, the beach and being near the water. They travelled extensively across Canada, the United States and Europe, going as far as Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia on a particularly epic journey with Ken and Diane Randall. Waikiki was one of their favourite destinations and they continued to visit Hawaii well into their eighties. John and Evelyn outlived their many friends and missed them greatly.
After John’s passing, Evelyn requested MAID for her end of life care. We greatly appreciate all the effort, compassion and respect the MAID staff demonstrated throughout this process.
We also wish to thank the staff at the Pine Falls hospital for the care they provided to both our parents in their final days.
Finally, a special thank you to Susan and Gene Lazaruk for helping our parents enjoy their final stages of life, keeping them safe and comfortable in their home in Pine Falls. They wished to live nowhere else.
A celebration of life was held with Evelyn and her family, prior to her passing. She will be greatly missed.
