Frank Oravec

September 10, 1927 — December 26, 2019

September 10, 1927 ~ December 26, 2019

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Frank, with family surrounding him, at the Pinawa Hospital.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Ann; his dear children, Frances (Greg), Ed (Shelly), Dave (Annette) and Carolyn (Ron); his grandchildren, Jesse, Meagan (Justin), Jenessa (Kyle), Leeza, Lukas and Julia; his precious great-grandchildren, Mason and Sophia; brother-in-law John (Jean); and all nieces and nephews.

Frank graduated from Queen’s University with a Mechanical Engineering degree and from North Carolina State University with a Textile Engineering degree.  After some years working in the textile industry, he found his ideal career with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., working in Chalk River, and finally at the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment in Pinawa until his retirement.

Frank was blessed with good health for most of his life and Pinawa was the perfect spot for him to enjoy his very many outdoor activities.  He became an avid hunter, fisherman, skier, golfer, gardener and bird enthusiast.  His prime interest and love was his family, always encouraging his children with their sports, music and arts. Most important was their education and he took great pride in their achievements.  He was a faithful parishioner of our early chaplaincy and then St. Francis of Assisi.

Many adventurous and wonderful years were spent travelling with Ann to a variety of countries around the world.

He will be greatly missed, forever loved, and cherished.

We are grateful for the excellent care by Dr. H. Harmer and the Emergency Room staff in the Beausejour Hospital and Dr. C. Williams and staff at the Pinawa Hospital.  No words can express the professional, loving and tender care Frank and his family received.  Also, thank you to those caregivers at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home who touched Frank’s life.

Cremation has taken place according to his wish.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father James Kofi Appiah on January 11, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Parish in Pinawa.

Flowers are graciously declined.  If desired, a donation to the St Francis of Assisi Building Fund is greatly appreciated.

To all, thank you for sharing our sorrow.
