Garth Alan Steidl

February 20, 1959 — November 3, 2023

February 20, 1959 ~ November 3, 2023

Peacefully, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Garth passed away at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

Garth was born in Winnipeg, Mb.  He was an intelligent young man and became a remarkable bridge player at a young age. As a teenager, he was part of the team that represented his High School on the CBC TV show, Reach For The Top.

He grew up watching wrestling with his Dad and became hooked. Hardly a day would go by without Garth watching his favorite wrestlers. He also loved sports. He would be so proud of his Blue Bombers! Not only did he play softball but he umpired for several years for Softball Manitoba.

He worked at the Canadian Grain Commission in downtown Winnipeg for 32 years and loved his job.

Garth was predeceased by his parents Jenny and Gerald Steidl as well as his in-laws Jack and Sharon Coote and his brother-in-law Ian Coote.

He leaves behind his wife Colleen, his step-kids Jason, Ian and Sharon, his brothers Gavin (Lisa) and Greg (Laura), sister-in-law Jeannette Coote and, nieces and nephews.

At his request, Garth has been cremated and to honor his wishes there will not be a ceremony.

The family would like to thank the Oakbank Fire and Paramedic for their kind treatment of Garth and the Selkirk Regional Health Center for taking care of him in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garth’s memory, to the Cancer Care Foundation of Winnipeg.
